The sun was out this morning, but the wind was hammering. The tram was closed down due to high wind from about 10:30am until 2:00pm. By the time it was up and running again the clouds had blown in and most of the people had blown out. Snowbird was a ghost town by 2:00pm, with the tram deck completely empty and trams heading to Hidden Peak less than half full.

It felt like the warm before the storm today with the wind blowing in the clouds and pushing around the loose snow that we do still have. That was a false alarm and the valley and canyon were all cleared out by 5:00pm. Looks like our next storm is still a day or two out.

Today was the 2 year and 2 month anniversary of the avalanche on Baldy that took local skier Heather Gross from us. Heather’s mom just delivered a really fantastic memorial plaque to the Snowbird Ski Patrol. The patrol will be placing the plaque near the memorial bench where Heather was found after that tragic accident. If you want to check it out it is on Hidden Peak in the patrol shack there.
