The North Face Masters at Crystal Mountain

The North Face Masters went to Crystal Mountain, WA for the second stop of the 2011 season.  Competitors had an awesome time shredding the mountain apart, even though conditions were variable.  The first day ended up being a weather day, but weather conditions got progressively better with each day, ending with a blue-bird finals day.  Competitors hiked to the top of The King in Crystal Mountain’s South Backcountry, to find that the upper 1/2 to 1/3 of the venue was extremely icy, while the lower section was soft with rock-hard avalanche debris scattered about.

There was a strong European contingent as this stop was also part of the Freeride World Tour.  The Europeans mentioned that they were extremely impressed with the level of riding, and that they had a great time, even though the conditions were less than ideal.
