The Whistler Peak to Valley Race presented by Appleton Rum is the longest GS race in the World, with almost 200 gates. Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to compete in the Peak to Valley Race…and must I say it was super cool. What made it even more exciting is that I never ski race, but I put on the speed suit (see picture) and got my Bode on. I ran fourth to last in the run order and the ruts and Ice caused me to throw a shoe. Bummer 🙁 However I still finished with a decent time.
This video is a trailer about the Peak to Valley Race. It is well edited and you kinda get a feel of the vibe on race day. What the video does not show is the full course length. The race takes you from the saddle on Peak Chair to Creekside some 5000+ vertical feet. YEP a leg burner. I think the only way to train for the Peak to Valley race is to do wall sits for about a year. The race is filled with people young and old. Ex World Cup racers to punk freeride guys like me. So next year get your calender and mark off the first weekend of February because you gotta come check out the Peak to Valley Race at Whistler Blackcomb.
