Friday was another beautiful day on the hill, while SLC was blanketed with a cold polluted fog. The sun was warm and I heard cries of “Junuary” from riders that were lapping the tram and drinking beer on the deck. A huge thanks to all the ski patrollers at Snowbird for getting the Comma Chute (Zone 5) open for the first time in resort history yesterday. Thanks also to Alta Patrol for their help in making it happen.
I was lucky enough to be in one of the first groups to ever legally ski The Comma at about 9:45am. It was so fun that we hit it up two more times after that. The cliffs in there are huge and not to be taken lightly. I actually took a cliff warning sign a little too lightly and got my ass cliffed out. I guess I am the first beater to do that so far. I am sure many more will follow in my footsteps.
A quick word for those who have already started to duck ropes into the area marked closed. You are F*cking Idiots! Patrol was going to close the whole area down after just 2 hours yesterday do you your stupid ass. If I find out who you are I will post your name and photo on here so everyone will know who ruined it for all of us. I don’t care who you are, or if you are one of my friends….if you cause this progress to come to a halt I will crucify you.
The mountain is getting a little more bumped up overall, but the snow is still soft and temps approached 40 degrees. It did feel springy indeed….maybe even late springy. The White Pine gate is still open so we went out again to rip a quick Scotty’s in the afternoon. The snow is holding up well on the North facing aspects for now. West facing and South facing aspects have been cooked by the sun for the last couple days and I would not recommend them. A storm would be nice. Looks like we have one on tap starting sometime on Sunday.
