Remember the classic rear-entry boot, or still have a pair?  In 1984 Salomon released the very first rear-entry boot.  The SX91.  This boot is still legendary and is widely considered a collector's item.

The Salomon family sold Salomon to Adidas in 1997 for $1.5 billion.  Salomon was then sold to Amer Sports (who owns Atomic and is the largest manufacturer of sports equipment in the world), a Finnish company, in 2005 for around $680 million.

Georges was born on Novemeber 18th, 1925 in Annecy, France.  Georges saw the Nazis take over his town and get kicked out again.  He also witnessed the post war boom in ski tourism in the Alps and was smart enough to talk his father into switching from making saw blades to manufacturing ski parts. Georges was a recreational skier that spent time and energy testing various Salomon products himself.

Georges Salomon is survived by his wife Perry, sons Bernard, Jean-Marc and François and seven grandchildren.

Thanks Georges.
