Temple Basin Adventure

Fellow US Ski team-mate Steve Nyman and I decided to (instead of sitting around on a canceled day of training) go check out Temple Basin, a ski field on Aurthur Pass, New Zealand.  The day turned into an adventure. We navigated 2 hours of winding New Zealand roads, as well as successfully negotiating a super secret dirt road short cut before we even reached the parking lot.  Then it was a 50 minutes 800 vertical assent climb from there to the base lodge, where we rented "nutcrackers" so we could attach ourselves to the steep high speed rope tows that led us into some pretty interesting terrain!  The adventure and uniqueness of the ski field made the skiing that much more fun!
