Most of my time and energy this holiday season have been consumed by Squaw Valley’s Big Mountain Team. This is my third season coaching, and saying that these kids rip is an understatement.
We’ve got a big year ahead of us! Last year was the inaugural year of the North Tahoe Junior Freeskiing Invitational, and we will be continuing the series this year. The local Big Mountain teams from Sugarbowl, Alpine Meadows, and Squaw Valley each send their top 15 skiers to compete in a Big Mountain Freeskiing Competition at each resort.
This season, our top athletes will also be traveling to Junior IFSA National events at Snowbird, Grand Targhee, Kirkwood, and Crystal Mountain.
Seeing these guys really nail something they’ve been working on is awesome! Whether it be a new trick, a big air, big GS turns down Headwall face, or sticking their competition line, these athletes are progressing fast, and really charging. It is always fun to ski with them!
