Falling off Becks Rock (The Gun Show)

Here is a nice little story from Squallywood , the holy grail of skiing Squaw. If you don’t have a copy of this book go buy one right NOW. In this story Squaw local Kristain Geissler tells his account of falling of Becks Rock. “I decided to go for a new line called The Gun Show. The approach was firm, but I thought I could carve over and take a straight trajectory off it. To my surprise, it was white ice and as slick as an ice skating rink. There was no chance at all of holding an edge. I began sliding toward the front edge of Beck’s Rock, completely sideways and going farther and farther in the back seat. All I could think of was trying to keep my skis underneath me the best I could. I was facing 90 degrees to the right and lying flat when I slid off the edge of this monstrous cliff. It was surreal and as I fell, I stayed surprisingly calm despite the fact I knew there was no way of escaping a potentially very painful landing. Time slowed down and my body slowly drifted clockwise until my head was facing downhill. Then bam! The landing fully knocked the wind out of me. I laid there in disbelief for a moment. My bomb-hole was only 18 inches deep. When I got my breath back I was stoked but also angry because I had had no intention of putting myself in that position. We measured the fall the next day with a rope and it was 100 feet!” To read more stories like this pickup the book at squallywoodthebook.com
