Check out this new AT binding by G3. I heard some guides talking about it on the Antarctica trip and it’s all been good hype so far. Coming back from a multi day trip of ski touring, I have become more interested in the equipment, the sport and most importantly the WEIGHT. As a group on the Antarctica trip, we all had limited ski expedition type experience involving harnesses, crampons and ice axes. – Personally, I have done a fair amount of skinning and backcountry riding, but this was my first real experience where we had seven days of ski touring with glacier safety equipment. With this experience, I have discovered a new found respect and knowledge for ski touring equipment and how different expedition skiing is from resort skiing. Before, I could never imagine skiing AT boots, Dynafit bindings or shorter skis. I was always like, “I am all about the down, I can suffer the uphill.” Well, I learned I can definitely make it happen but at the same time I have come to understand that with ski touring/ski expeditions, it is not all about the down, rather about the whole mountain experience and adventure you experience in the mountains going both down, up and all around.
