Standard Films has been producing top notch videos for about 20 years. – Aside from their mind blowing shots, excellent editing, and their no fear approach to cutting so-so shots that would appear in most other shred flicks, I’ve especially enjoyed seeing their big mountain sections each year; Noah Salasnek, Dave Hatchett, Tom Burt, Johan Olofsson, and Jeremy Jones have all had super sick big mountain segments. –
That being said, I was a little disappointed by the lack of big mountain footage. – Aside from Xavier de la Rue’s awesome segment, which included some Freeride World Tour contest footage, there was just a midget’s handful of big mountain material. – That’s not to say that the movie is bad, just that there wasn’t as much of the stuff prefer to watch. – There were many very impressive rail and urban sections, and some pretty sick kicker sessions without a doubt. – Torstein Horgmo’s opening segment had some really sick 900 and 1260 tree bonks, as well as a close call with an avalanche he set loose. – Haldor Helgason and Jason Dubois have some notable urban jibbing and really technical rail segments. – Lonnie Kauk’s closing segment had a couple sick lines in it, and lots of really, really smooth spins; that guy is a fun snowboarder to watch. – In the end, if you’re like me and prefer big mountain riding over jibbing, this probably isn’t the video for you. – On the contrary, if urban jibs, technical rail tricks, and progressive freestyle tricks are your bag, this is a movie you’ll enjoy.
