We have spoken of his blog before (and I’m sure we’ll do it again) but for those of you that don’t know, Squaw local and big mountain ripper Jeremy Jones has been chronicling his trip to backcountry Alaska from this past season in a series of blog posts and spectacular photo’s.- If you have not had a chance to read any of them, I highly suggest you check it out. In his most recent post published on May 12, Jones tells of naming a peak after the late and great Shane McConkey.- While it is somewhat unclear as to which photo in his post is actually Mt. McConkey, I assume it’s this one shown above.- He writes, I have never been one to name first descents but now that I am hiking and riding these unnamed and unclimbed peaks I have started to name the special ones.- Since Shane’s death I have been looking for one for him.- We moved camp to a new zone that is a series of 6 peaks that range from mellow to mega gnar with easy access.- This zone is the perfect spot I have seen for plane access riding and it is only twenty minutes from town. The biggest and baddest peak I decided to name after Shane. Following this breif description of the peak, he offers some heartfelt words about the loss of his friend.- Read Post
