More Tragic News for Squaw Valley.
ne person is dead and more than 30 injured in a tour bus crash this morning on Interstate 80 about 1.5 miles west of the Floriston exit in California, the California Highway Patrol reports.
More than 30 people were transported to hospitals in Reno and Truckee, California Highway Patrol officer Steve Skeen reported, including four with life-threatening injuries.
The CHP received the call at 8:28 a.m. and arrived to find the Squaw Creek employee bus in the ditch and several people lying outside the bus, Skeen said.
Skeen said the bus was driving west in the right lane and for an unknown reason drifted to the right shoulder and struck the guardrail and overturned. He said it is a bus that picks up employees for the resort in Squaw Valley from Reno and transports them to work.
Les Pedersen, director of sales and marketing for the Resort at Squaw Creek, confirmed that a company shuttle that transports employees from the Reno area to the resort was involved in the accident. Pedersen said 32 employees were on board and it’s his understanding that more than one vehicle was involved.Westbound Interstate 80 remains closed as they remove the bus and clean up the fuel spill. Eastbound Interstate 80 was also closed for a short time this morning. rgj.com
