The Weather Channel has announced that starting this winter they will be naming winter storms just like the National Weather Service names summer hurricanes. The Weather Channel said most of their winter storm names will be of Greek and Roman decent, with the first three being Athena, Brutus and Caesar.
The Weather Channel Winter Storm Names
The National Weather Service handles the universal naming of hurricanes, which began in the 1950s. The authoritative weather body has not commented on whether or not it will support The Weather Channel’s naming of winter storms.

Naming hurricanes is pretty cool, but the only name we need to give winter storms is POWDER.
