If there’s one thing this season has delivered on, it’s avalanche videos. With the combination of super-sketchy conditions and the ubiquity of GoPros, it seems like one avalanche video surfaces every week. So, here’s your video-reminder for this week. This time it’s in-bounds at Solitude. Although for the most part the video is just pow skiing, there’s a gut-wrenching couple of seconds where you can see the avalanche coming from behind the skier, with some good speed (0:25). Always remember, stop in a safe place!

wow another person in avy terrain with no gear. he should have invested in some avy equipment instead of a Go Pro.

Reminds me of when I sent a slab off the expert chutes down on my buddy who was filming below. Lucky angle to see it coming like that.

Gopro makes a good avalanche rear-view mirror, kinda like the jumbotron during a kickoff return.

This guy looked like a decent skier…someone with many powder days under his boots. He should/just as all others, wear full avy gear when skiing INBOUNDS on sketchy days.

There is NO question that this years snow pack has been crazy…this guy had to know this. Trusting patrol to get every single possible slide path under control is not smart. Patrol can only do so much, especially with wind loading.

Around 2001 I was skiing just to the left of scott chute at alpine…the wind had been scorching all day, and patrol was working non-stop hitting the ridges with bombs. I got cute and found a nice patch above a rock field with a narrow choke…first turn and the whole patch ripped two-feet deep and carried me about 800-feet into the trees. The force of the snow pushing against my back as I was wedged against a tree was insane. Like sitting in a river with the water flow hitting you.

The snow snapped one of my skis at the binding…It was an eye opener.

We always try to get cute on powder days, and sometimes common sense goes out the window.

Would avy gear prevent an slide…no. Would it be smart to have when skiing this year – YES!

As Xavier has said multiple time…he assumes every run he makes will slide on him.
