The TED Talk presentation given by Katal Innovations is now online. Words can’t describe the feeling you’ll get after watching this video, it’ s truly moving. Witnessing this presentation live was the first time I’ve ever heard Aaron Coret completely open up about his accident. His descriptions are not sugar coated.
-Aaron Coret is the most inspirational person I’ve ever met-
It’s shocking how many people don’t know what a TED Talk is. I sympathize somewhat if you’re one of our many readers who decided to go skiing instead of attend University, however if you’ve attended University in the last 10 years and you don’t know what a TED Talk is… Shame on you.
TED Stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design and the talks/conferences are organized to showcase “Ideas Worth Spreading”.
On Saturday I attended my First TED Talk and was blown away by the creativity and detail put into each presentation.
The main reason I attended the Vancouver TEDx Talk was to see my good friends Steve Slen & Aaron Coret of Katal Innovations present.
Katal Innovations and The Landing Pad began as an engineering project at UBC when my good friends set out to build a next generation safety device that would allow skiers and snowboarders to progress riding without the fear of bodily injuries. Their creation was the groundbreaking Landing Pad that allows you to ride the trick out if you land on your feet, and absorbs your impact if you fall.
Steve and Aaron delivered an intense yet moving presentation about following your passion. The talk had the crowd in shock, in addition it was one of two presentations (out of twenty) to receive a standing ovation.
After Katal Innovations presented the Chan Center erupted, Steve and Aaron gave eachother a pound and exited the stage.
Prior to my first TED experience I knew nothing about how TED events were organized. Turns out that not just anyone can go to a TED Talk. If you want a ticket you have to apply/be selected. Also the professionalism was beyond what I expected, everything from the back end (Nark, Gid, Ryan and Sam) to the party at the Planetarium.
Bottom Line, if TED is holding a conference in your city I suggest you beef up your resume and apply for a position in the audience. I guarantee that you’ll hear some “Ideas worth spreading”

Amazing
Is this an old post? I feel like I read this about a year ago.
I should note that I have no problem with it if it is since it is a very good story. I am just wondering if I am crazy.
There was an old post on Katal Innovations; the video of their TEDxVancouver talk is new.
That’s a brilliant idea. Way to move through the devastation and improve himself and the community. Props
awesome. these guys are graduates from my program at ubc, integrated engineering. if only I was around at that time to be part of this project… I wish. good job boys!
It’s a great product, of course there will always be pros and cons but overall…the pros out weigh the cons.
Here is a link to the one that was in Mammoth in 2010.

Thank you for sharing this. Really makes me wonder what the hell I’m doing sitting at my desk at work, watching videos about people who do something with their lives, instead of living mine the way I want to.
Thanks x 100000 for sharing. Ben, I share your sentiments exactly. I honestly teared up a bit at the end, so damn inspiring.
