Remember Vanessa?  Oh, yeah, you do, do you? Yep, she’s the beautiful professional skier that skied Mt. Superior Naked and got us all fired up. I mean, how cool do you have to be to pull this stunt off as a girl?  Pretty damn cool, I assure you.

Vanessa just got invited to the World Heli Challenge in New Zealand that will be happening from July 27th – August 11th, 2011.

Only 50 skiers and snowboarders were invited and Vanessa is bad-ass enough (no pun intended) to be on that list. This is an opportunity of a lifetime as well as a fantastic venue for Vannessa to show off her skills on a world wide venue.

As with most pro skiers, Vanessa works in the summer to afford skiing all winter. As such, she is short of cash in the summer and could use some help getting to the World Heli Challenge. She’s got $16 in the bank right now.  Let’s help her get the $2000 she needs for that entry fee.

Please go to her website and throw her a couple bucks.  Hell, if everyone who checked out her BN post gave her a buck, she’d be way more than set to head to New Zealand.

Send some $$$$ here please:  SendVannessaToWHC.com

Here is what Vanessa is telling us from here website:

My name is Vanessa Aadland, I’ve been skiing for 20 years and have been skiing professionally for 3. Living the ski life is what makes me happy. It’s not warm, cozy, easy but definitely not boring. I go from working 16 hours, to driving 16, with $16 in the bank. I’ve slept on a array of couches and floors, sold everything, broken most of my bones and lost hero’s and friends. But more importantly, I have traveled the world and met the most beautiful people. People who are genuinely happy becuase they do what they love everyday. People who have so much to give because they live lives of gratitude and love. People who go out of their way to help you and expect nothing in return.

From sacrifices small to big it’s all been worth it becuase I love my life!

I have been invited to attend the World Heli-Challenge. This was a huge honor as only 50 skiers and snowboarders in the whole world compete each year. The entry fee for the competition is $2,000 and with $16 in the bank I am looking to raise the other $$$$. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

I will donate $5.00. Come on, who’s with me?! Let’s help her out.
She deserves a shot at the Heli trip and help from the Squaw Valley community. I’m sure we will get a report when she returns.

Professional skiers are defined as being paid to ski and/or working in the ski industry. Usually sponsored, as Vanessa is. A professional earns money for their skiing ability as an instructor, guide, a racer/athlete on a pro tour of some kind. They are not a dime a dozen, although it would seem that way because so many claim to be. Darren Rhalves/Ingrid Backstrom=Yes. Johnny Radness in the KT line without any race or competition background and training with a sponsor and/or a W2 from a ski industry company=No.

Please re-read what you just wrote and correct…. Sponsored doesn’t mean that she gets money… and if so, why is she coming to the social media networks to ask for money? Shouldn’t her “sponsors” be fronting this bill/helping with it?

Agreed. You are exactly right. Sponsored does not always mean they get money or transportation, as is the case with Vanessa. Depends on how high up the ladder you are. Some get some equipment but not much money and have to pay their own travel. Some excellent skiers like Jen Ashton from Whistler and Miles Honen from Squaw may get a little money and some equipment but not much and travel is on their own and can be very expensive.
Most professional skiers end up eeking out some kind of income from the sport. Many times a combination of jobs in the industry in addition to a sponsorship, a job on the mountain, or a foundation that covers their travel and expenses like many world cup skiers get. Some have parents/family that are willing to sacrafice also.

Homeless guys don’t usually ski and rip big lines naked. She does work, she just needs a little help getting to a huge event that will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Unofficial is not asking for money. They are just following up on a huge response to a posting about her stunt. The info is there for what anyone wants to do. I’m willing to give $5.00 towards sending her the heli comp.

Some sponsors only give equipment to the athletes. It depends on how high up the ladder you are. Lower=a pair of skis. Higher=plane ticket, clothes, $$, gear. Vanessa is not very high up yet. Example=Jen Ashton, Whistler local. Former 3rd place in World Freeskiing Comps at Snowbird. Warren Miller Film star. She was lucky to get $500 and a tank of gas for her truck. Always broke, outstanding skier and personality. Outstanding skier. Broke her sternum and bones in her face skiing in the WM film. Paid for her own medical.

I highly doubt she is the only chick to get naked and ski around the Wasatch. Why is this getting so much attention? It’s not like she is actually going to qualify after paying the $2000 entry fee. She’ll go too big and get hurt like she always does. I’ll keep my dollar and donate to someone that isn’t lazy and using their body to stir up talk, and then ask for money.

Pro skier in North America; 25% discount on MSRP for a pair of skis and a free t-shirt. Living in your pick up truck and eating burgers and fries every night.

Pro skier in Europe; free gear, helicopter time, travelling expenses paid for, five star hotels in the most prestigious ski towns in the alps, dinner in michelin guide restaurants and last but not least enough cash to make the athlete move to Monaco to stop paying taxes in their respective countries.

Oh yeah some also manage to buy boats to race them or to sail solo across the pacific during the off season.

Moral of the story; move to Europe and do the Nissan FWT.
