No one likes being woken up by a Ranger at 7 am with his tazer drawn but if this were to happen and one was to be ticketed for illegal camping in Moab, one may need a pick me up.

What could possibly go wrong?

As I sifted through my pack this weekend I saw the wholesome goodness of a delicious Garuka Bar.  With one bite my whole outlook on the day changed.  I looked around and took in the natural beauty of the canyon, taking in the natural nourishment of my delicious Garuka bar as well.

Breakfast of Champions

‘Garuka bars are packed full of simple, wholesome ingredients, and a percentage of each sale goes towards gorilla conservation. ‘  Garuka Bars are made with Vermont raw honey, peanut butter, 7 whole-grain flakes, dried cranberries, brown rice puffs, light brown sugar, whole peanuts, and a teeny tiny bit of Vermont’s own Cabot butter.

GARUKA BARS helped me to see some of them there Arches

They are currently releasing limited edition flavors as well- email subscribers get early access. They plan to release more flavors throughout the summer, but only limited runs available online. If you are ever bonking or need something nutritious to release your ‘primal energy’ at the begining of the day, these things really work!  A special thanks to Mike Rosenberg for providing the nourishment and for inventing such a cool product.

Really all you need to know is that I don’t always go to Utah but when I do I get in trouble. My dog is meaner than he looks and the guy was scared, that’s all. Seriously though these bars are different than anything you’ve had and they’re a great start-up company, definitely nothing to hate on.

Their allergy labeling is insufficient. Cannot find it on their websites. They are not calling out what the “7 whole grain flakes” are composed of. By law, if a food contains one or more of them, the top 7 allergens must be called out on the label, these are:

    1. Milk
    2. Egg
    3. Soy
    4. Wheat
    5. Peanut
    6. Tree nut
    7. Seafood

    from the Graruka home page:
“Garuka Bars are all natural and made with only 8 ingredients: Vermont raw honey, peanut butter, 7 whole-grain flakes, dried cranberries, brown rice puffs, light brown sugar, whole peanuts, and a teeny tiny bit of Vermont’s own Cabot butter.”

If they are using the Kashi brand 7 Whole Grain Flakes, which is the most popular brand, they still have to call out the allergens on the label, as the Kashi 7 Flakes contain Wheat Bran as their first ingredient, and Soy protein. Because they are using dairy in the form of “Cabot’s butter,” they may also get in trouble for not saying, contains: Milk, Wheat, Soy

The “Kashi 7 Grain” cereal is one of the most successful junky, sugar laden, allergy bearing ingredient marketing ruses of health food of all time. My guess is that Kashi also does not want them using their trademarked name on the label, and that is why they are not showing that, nor a picture of the full Garuka ingredients label on their website. If they are using a different cereal blend, they still must call out the allergens it contains (if any) on their label.

If you could pass this info on to the company so they could correct this, before somebody busts their chops on it, it would be a great idea. It is no use tripping over the small stuff if you’ve got a good product but are not packaging it in a way that’s going to work out.

(The first thing I thought was oh, crap, that could make the dog throw up in the car. Yes, your pet can have problems with some of this stuff, too. )

        “garbage in, garbage out….. ”

Athletes can’t eat mystery foods. Neither can 20% of the general population. Many distributors are going to tell them to get lost, because of liability issues because of this.

Just looking at it from a business standpoint.

Lawyers love this sort of petty bullsh*t. So does the FDA. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

If you’re not disclosing all the ingredients, you’re not kosher, dude.

This is getting sketchier and sketchier.

whoever said this is what’s wrong with america was right, get over yourself. these were changed in name because someone had a copyright or some other BS on the gorilla name. it shouldn’t be so goddamn hard for someone with a good idea to get a start with their small business.

No matter how legit the food is, these ad hominem attacks you’re waging in its defense is pretty weak and looks bad for them and you… (assuming you aren’t one and the same, because that would be even worse).

No matter how overzealous Geriatic S Gurl comes across; It’s the manufacturers responsibility to label their ingredients, and regardless of how indignant you are of those that are ‘litigation happy’…Garuka will be held legally responsible if someone is hurt through consumption.

A lot of fans of mystery ingredients here. Wonder if they use generic bindings on their no brand skis.

“mystery ingredients”? they’re listed right on the site. if you’re so worried about allergies, don’t fucking eat them. if you’re allergic you should probably just avoid any questionable foods instead of falling back on bullshit liability and suing after your stupid ass ate something you were allergic to. don’t blame someone else for your stupid goddamn mistakes.

          My, my, we’re getting a bit …. defensive, aren’t we ?

They aren’t listed. Looked at photos of the bar wrappers. Not listed. Looked at their facebook page. Not listed.

Shouldn’t be too hard to list the what’s really in the “7 flakes,” or what could be in the “7 flakes,” unless it’s something like imported Chinese bulk generic cornflakes, bran, or sawdust and sugar. But it doesn’t do that. Very curious !

Hope someone isn’t trying to hide something. ;)

    To all the whiney bitches:
No shit this is an ad. Great observation. Now here’s the funny part. Most normal people will be affected by and ad through a TV show or a Radio program, maybe even a pop up. Most normal people are able to deal with this issue by changing the channel or turning down the volume but you idiots got ass hurt when all you had to do was not open the link or even hit the back or home button. Instead I feel most of you just kept on reading. Now I know most of you are used to full commitment because you can’t really back out of that cliff once your launching off that edge. Here with these type of lame Unoffical ads you can completely ignore them by reading the header, thinking for a moment then continuing on to the next artical that has to do with shredding or boobs or anything more interesting than derka derka bars.
By the way, if you can’t handle wheat just skip the bar, don’t complain that the maker does not tell you about every last ingreadent. I am a strong beleave of they only sold it because YOU bought it.
