Homewood, CA (Lake Tahoe)

Located in California on the shores of Lake Tahoe, Homewood Resort has some of the best views of any ski resort in the world. With an average snowfall of around 450 inches per season, and a whopping 300 days of sunshine per year, it’s no wonder that  Homewood is Tahoe’s little secret.

Treble Cone, New Zealand

This expansive mountain has the longest vertical rise in the Southern Lakes with far reaching boundaries spread over two large basins.  Mother Nature has taken care of the terrain sculpting fun gullies, wide faces and exciting undulating runs.  The ski area covers two basins - the Saddle and Home basin. Both provide some of the best free riding in New Zealand and are famous for putting you on top of the Southern Alps with the outlook to match. Any day is a good one to explore the mountain with mates and share the challenge and excitement of new found runs, powder pockets or lips.

Alyeska, Alaska

With an average annual snowfall of 650 inches, no llift lines, diverse terrain and unparalleled views, Alyeska is skiing and riding’s last frontier. 2,500 vertical feet, 1,400 acres of terrain and plenty of steep stashes for all.

Grouse Mountain, Canada

Grouse Mountain, located outside Vancouver, Canada is rare in that it provides sweeping views of a major city. Breathtaking panoramic views of the city, sea and surrounding mountains unfold, culminating with a summit altitude of 4100 feet.

Lake Louise, Canada

Spectacular scenery awaits at the Lake Louise Ski Area with uniquely beautiful terrain that is both vast and varied. Our 4200 skiable acres are surrounded by wilderness that is pristine and inspirational. Located in the heart of the majestic & historic Banff National Park in Alberta, Lake Louise is truly legendary and offers world class terrain.

Happo-One, Japan

Hakuba Happo-one located on the island of Honshu is one of Japan’s largest and most famous ski resorts. The area is blessed with breathtaking panoramic views of Hakuba’s hugely impressive mountain range and striking beauty of excellence. It is also known as the competition venue for the 1998 Olympic Winter Games Nagano and thus offers visitors to the region exciting and challenging ski slopes. The ski runs extend east from Mt. Karamatsu (elevation 2696m) to the base areas-Nakiyama, Shirakaba, Kokusai, Sakka – where they spread out in a fan-like form with the majestic Northern Japanese Alps rising to 3000m in the background.

Grand Targhee, Wyoming

Grand Targhee Resort is a mountain resort situated on the western slope of the Tetons in Alta, Wyoming. The Grand is continually recognized for it’s great snow, light powder snow (more than 500 inches annually), scenic beauty and excellent value. In addition to the view Grand Targhee reserves 602 acres every winter for powderhounds on the snowcat.

Cerro Catedral, Argentina

Cerro Catedral sites on the doorway to Patagonia in southern Argentina. Classic Andes rock spires mixed with views of Nahuel Huapi Lake make for intoxicating views of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Le Brevent, Chamonix France

Le Brevent and La Flegere (2525m) on the sunny south side of the Chamonix Valley are the closest skiing areas to Chamonix’s main town centre. Skiers and snowboarders are guaranteed to find something to their liking from the vast array of moderate, challenging and difficult runs from the top of Planpraz (Le Brevent), Cornu (Le Brevent) and Index (La Flegere) chairlifts. For many years these two areas were separate until lift systems linked them together in 1997 with the introduction of the Liaison cable car forming one larger area.

What is the 10th mountain that should be on this list?

just because Homewood is the closest to the lake doesn’t make it the best. In my opinion you need to get high and away from the lake to appreciate the surrounding terrain. Homewood feels like a resort in the midwest sometimes. Heavenly, Alpine, Squaw, Mt Rose, Diamond peak, and even Kirkwood blow homewood out of the water for views

    Number ten, how about Verbier?

How about a thread of the ten most ghetto resorts (view/surroundings/rifraff)? I’m sure some of the mid-eastern resorts hit this rhelm but how about some US resorts that are just too close to mass-humanity for their own good?

You truely feel like you’re on the top of the world, with views of over half a dozen other mountain ranges, at least 2 valleys, 2 national parks, & 3 states- on a clear day we can see your Tetons from here! The views of the Spanish Peaks from the lower elevations are also very deserving of being recognized, as is the view of Lone Peak from the base area or the top of Andesite Mtn.
