Aspen’s 128 year old Little Red Ski Haus has a rich history dating back to the days when Aspen was a mining town. The lodge was previously a house of ill repute, then it was a boarding house, then a dorm style budget inn for skiers and most recently a unsuccessful fractional ownership scheme that didn’t work out. Ultimately, the property was repoed by a bank, all this according to a Bloomberg article.

In 2014 it was purchased by Jaime Rubinson for $5.1 million and put back on the market two years later for a cool $11.8 million. She said the updates were wholesale, taking the decor from “Hampton Inn-level accommodation” to a level on par with rest of the neighborhood.
It may be know as a little ski haus but its specs tell another tale. At 6,677 square feet the “little haus” is nearly 3 times the size of the average American home. It boasts 14 bedroom (10 of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms), a dining room that seats 24 and a 25 foot long bar. Other amenities include a full gym, hot tub, multiple entertainment areas and mud room with enough room for 24 sets of boots and skis.
It’s centrally located to downtown Aspen and if standing on the front porch, Aspen, Smuggler, and Red Mountain ski resorts are all visible. The property can double as a money making bed and breakfast or as a private home for friends and family. Lets hope this piece of Aspen history finds the right owner, preferably a billionaire that likes to subsidize ski bums.
