Judging by this video COC just dropped, the park up there is going to be tip top this summer.

Lots of snow this winter and a cold spring left a huge amount of snow up on the Blackcomb glacier and COC is making sure that none of it goes to waste by starting construction on what looks like the biggest and most awesome park they’ve had in years!

Triple Big jump line, quad medium jump line with hips, some heavy new rail features, an extra lane and the return of the rail garden makes this look like it’s going to be a pretty good summer season.

I can’t promise the park builders will listen to you at all (in fact probably not), but what do you wish COC would build this summer?

The time of year is upon us, that time when things shift away from skiing…opening a great void in our lives.  What are we to do without our beloved snow capped mountains?  If you feel at a loss with what to do next, check out the above video then go buy a downhill mountain bike.  Whistler Bike Park opened just a couple weeks ago, and judging by the moist, intense, and beautifully slowed down video from early spring, things are teeing off.

In my opinion, not much can compare to skiing.  But mountain biking certainly comes close to feeding that desire for heart thumping, high speed enjoyment in the mountains.  So what’s your story?  Have you dusted off the bike yet?  Or do you indulge in some other form of summertime fun…maybe climbing, backpacking, kayaking…the summer time options are endless!  You know what they say, you come to the mountains for the winter, but you stay for the summer. 

The conditions absolutely sucked up there, it was barely above freezing and visibility was poor (maybe I was just cross eyed?), but the vibe was awesome, the drinks were abundant, and the costumes were incredible. This added up to an epic day on the hill, arguably one of the most fun of the season.

I had big plans to make a super legit Gaper Day video, but things got loose in the morning when someone decided hard liquor is a good substitute for hard boiled eggs. You can really see how this influenced the footage as I missed three quarters of the shots and had slush caked on the lens the rest of the time. If it wasn’t for my buddy’s holding it down with iPhones and contours I would have blown it completely.

Shitty filming aside, I got drunk and made a fun edit. Mission accomplished. You missed out if you weren’t there.

I’m pretty sure I had the best time ever.

The countdown begins, and there’s only 2 days left to get locked and loaded for the most important event of 2012. Whistler Gaper day!

Even if you were there last year, you probably don’t remember it all that clearly. The party got messy with “Avant Ski” Starting things off at the Longhorn Saloon before people started heading up the hill, and it went into a pretty steep downward spiral after that.

Here’s a short motivational piece to get you all fired up to make 2012 the best Gaper Day yet!

Get Gnar on a monoski? Check.

Pond skim? Check.

Have fun, be (relatively) safe, and remember, don’t take your skis or boards off until you get home, it will keep you from driving.

This is straight nuts! Steve Corbett hucks himself into history, performing the first quad backflip on skis in 1975 at Whistler. Apparently, the Guinness Book of World Records refused to accept the record due to the danger of the stunt. Corbett ended up sending it 170′, 80′ off the deck on skis that appear to be around 200cm.

While the quad starts at about 3:00, this video is pretty well edited and gives some perspective on what went down that day. Take a few extra minutes and watch the whole thing.

Interestingly enough, the cameras lose Corbett on the landing, but we’re pretty sure he stomped it.
