Whistler

Tired of Skiing on Ice | Try Skating (also preformed on ice)

December 13th, 2011 by

Before it snows again visit the lakes around Whistler and go for a glide. The one good thing about this high pressure system is there’s no snow on the ice and we can play hockey.

Video From Last Year

I happen to live on Green Lake and until last year I had never been skating in my back yard.  As it pissed rain in the valley for three days in January the snow on the lake turned into two inches of water. Then… my dream came true and the lake froze with a layer of glass at the surface. Leaving the 2 miles of Green Lake perfect to skate across, from end to end. As soon as I saw someone on the lake I grabbed my skates and ran outside. I ended up skating for three and a half hours until the sun set, and I loved every minute of it.

En Route Camp BC | Nimbus Independent

December 6th, 2011 by

As soon as Eliel found out about the Callaghan touring mission he ran to his computer and checked snow-forecast. The website read heavy snow… And Heavy snow they got.

Before the Vancouver Games the Callaghan Valley was an extremely popular sledding area (a sick zone I might add). However as the Olympics approached the Callaghan was made a provincial park = no sledding.  Touring Only.

This installment of En Route by Nimbus Independent follows Anthony Boronowski, Julien Regnier and Eliel Hindert on a snow camping mission into Callaghan Valley.

Peak Chair Opens Tomorrow | The Madness Starts | Will We See Air Jordan?

Whistler Peak Chair Opens Tomorrow. Will People Hit AJ?

Peak Chair Opens tomorrow. Is Air Jordan ready to go? Do you think we’ll see someone hit the famous double stager. Anyway, after watching these two videos from last season we here at Unofficial Whistler have decided to have a contest for the 2012 ski season. The best crash on AJ will win a prize. Details coming soon.

To me it appears this skier ventured into a zone beyond his ability. This Joey (a common term for inexperienced skiers) drops into Air Jordan leaning back with a  non-aggressive stance. You can tell this because he “rolls down the windows” on the first drop.  Then, because of his lack of commitment and poor position on the first drop, our Joey lands back seat, is spun around so his skis then face uphill, and then goes toque over teakettle off the second drop. Way to go dude!

Here’s One More Crash
