Sun + Warm temperatures – Clothes = A FUNNY SLUSH CUP
Whistler Blackcomb was a perfect place on Saturday. The last weekend of the 2011 TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival brought sun, fun and a large crowd to the Glacier Creek Lodge! The Palm Bay Slush Cup needs no introduction so watch and laugh as people eat S#!T into the icy waters.
On Friday Qualifiers for the WSI Superpipe went down followed by a concert by Broken Social Scene. The TELUS Festival has taken over our bodies and the office of Unofficial Whistler smells like ski socks and booze. Day one, two and three of the 2011 Telus World Ski and Snowbaord Festival went off with a bang. The first weekend provided good skiing, epic concerts (Fort Knox Five, Swollen Members, and Spirit of the West) and some progressive snowboard events, Monster Energy’s THE SHOW. Local ski cinema company Progressive Youth Productions has been doing some work this year and has filmed a “Dead Episode” released every Tuesday since first snow. My favorite episode is Dead Episode 15. In 15, PYP films Eliel Hindert, Anthony Boronowski and Ingrid Backstrom as they ski some pillows off Whistler Mountain. My day consisted of a few hikes around the Blackcomb sidecountry. Andrew Strain and I started with a run on DOA where we found some great snow and cool rocks covered in rime making for artsy photos. We then tried to get some action photos but it turns out the shot we got has already been used as a cover. After DOA we toured over to Spearhead peak where we found good snow in the shady areas.
