Dead Episode 8, from PYP

January 19th, 2011 by

This video is the eighth installment of the weekly series produced by Progressive Youth Productions (PYP)  . This week PYP delivers a great video that gives you the “BC feel good vibe”. The episode is well edited with great cinematography and includes appropriate music that (this time) is suited for all ages.  Some highlights of the video include Eliel’s huge 360, which I witnessed him try a second time for the Deep Winter Photo Challenge. Also Liam delivers a good crash, and got very lucky and he opted not to try again during Deep Winter. The video is only 3:30 seconds but for some reason (i believe export related) there is an extra four minutes of nothing?

Deep Winter Day 3

January 15th, 2011 by

The third and final Shooting day of Deep Winter and the worst morning weather by far.  We woke up to pouring rain in the village and it didn’t become snow until half way up the mountain (1700m).  The Temp hovered around freezing all day but the amount of moisture made it feel much colder.  Although it was heavy there was a enough for some thick powder turns in the morning and some nice fresh lines through the higher trees.  Due to heavy winds Peak-2-Peak didn’t open and neither did the alpine. At about 2 pm the clouds broke and the sun came out allowing all the photographers that one last chance to get that awesome photo.  Stay tuned for updates from tomorrows Deep Winter Photo Challenge Slideshow and find out who will be crowned King of Storms.

Deep Winter Day 2

January 14th, 2011 by

So day 2 of Deep Winter was not the best shooting conditions but still a good day.  In the morning the Whistler Blackcomb site said 1 cm of fresh powder overnight and for once Whistler under estimated.  Although it was wet there was around 20 cm of fresh and due to the very poor visibility it was almost empty up there.  Yet again the high alpine didn’t open however they did open glacier chair and Spanky’s on Blackcomb.  Half way through the day some gnarly winds kicked up and the Peak to Peak closed.  Overall the morning was awesome but by the end of the day it all got pretty heavy and wet which made the ride out a bit rough.

Deep Winter Day 1

January 13th, 2011 by

Yesterday was day one of the Deep Winter Photo Challenge at Whistler Blackcomb and DEEP it was.  There were 25 cm’s of fresh champagne powder and with a temp of -8 at the peak it stayed that temperature all day.  The Whistler gondola was down for the day so it was a bit hectic at the bottom of Creekside but once we uploaded there were no complaints.  Although the high alpine didn’t open there was more then enough powder to have some fresh turns even as we were riding out at the day.  Most of the day was spent deep in the trees shooting some secret spots where there were no tracks to be seen for miles.
