Bluebird Pow Day | Snowbird Conditions Jan. 24th, 2012

January 24th, 2012 by

The conditions have taken a turn for the way better at Snowbird in the last few days. The weekend storm has added coverage and powder that make all kinds of new things possible. There has been a ton of avalanche activity and patrol has been cautious about opening up more terrain so far. Mineral did not open today by the time I headed out at 2:00, which was a little surprising to me. I guess there are still a lot of things moving out there.

The pow on Silver Fox was blow up into your face light and legit face shots were had by many today for the first time this season. The lower mountain is filling in nicely and still skiing super soft. The monster bumps of last week have not re-formed yet and I hope they don’t for a while.  There is some light snow forecast for the next 24-48 hours and another storm should be here by Friday. Gotta love it when the snow machine turns on!!!

Telluride Storm Drops Over 2 Feet of Pow in 2 Days…January 22-23, 2012.

January 24th, 2012 by

The last few days skiing in Telluride were some of the best in years! Over 2 Feet of new snow fell on the mountain with pockets of blown snow and drifts in places twice as deep. The powder panic was at an all time high on Sunday morning with massive lines early and no significant lifts turning until around 10am. When the ropes finally dropped, it was on and people were getting after it in a big way!

Casey Riva was hucking off everything and anything including stomping the s#*t out of Awesome Rock…very awesome performance in deed! Nice work out there Casey.

With the HIGH avy danger and amount of new snow, Lifts 12, 14, and 15 didn’t open until Monday morning allowing for us to do it all again yesterday. And to top it off…it’s still dumping in town as I write this. Bring it on!

John Denver Heli-Skis Lake Tahoe 1979 | “That John Denver is Full of $hit”

Celebrity Ski Classic 1979.

Every once in a while a diamond in the rough is found. A hidden gem who’s bright luminescent has long been dimmed by the passage of time in history. Mr. Denver was fearless! He was up for any, and every thing! Not only a great singer, he was always a “dare-devil,” ready to prove his abilities or something like that. Gotta love the skiing in packs, its like the flying “V” in hockey or a flock of birds.

Winter Returns to Telluride in a Big Way – Jan.16-17, 2012

January 17th, 2012 by

After weeks of no snow, unseasonably warm temps, and bullet-proof conditions…Telluride finally got dumped on! The last two days have been the best ski days in some time and morale is definitely up in the canyon. The forecast is helping as well with additional snow-fall leading us into the weekend…let’s hope winter sticks around for a while!
