This thing is crazy. Part car, part giant screw, the 1926 Armstead Snow Motor Vehicle is an oddity in snow transportation. While similar to modern snow cats with track steering, the Armstead rides on two grooved cylinders that propels the machine through snow. Although the video portrays the machine as more of a work horse than a recreational vehicle, we’d like to think it could have been used for some quick laps. Where’d this thing go? We want one!
Xavier De Le Rue and Lucas Debari are nearing the end of their Antarctic Mission to ride and explore the southern continent. This short video, uploaded on December 12, provides a look at some of the things that they have been getting themselves into down south. From the look of it, spine walls, some bird watching and some sort of ultralight helicopter contraption have all been a part of their journey. Honestly if anyone knows what the device is at (0:53) feel free to put it in the comments.

YES Snowboards has released a DCP Recut from their team video, YES It’s a Movie Too. The Chicoutimi, Quebec native DCP (David Carrier-Porchern) shows his ability to cruise down big mountain spinewalls with ease and shred powder fields like it is his job. DCP is a co-founder of YES Snowboards.
From YES Snowboard TV:
“YES. It’s DCP. Here’s all his pow slaying, freestyle, and big mountain riding from AK, Japan, Chile and Whistler. Cut, recut and added to from YES. It’s a Movie Too. Thanks for watching!”
This trick reel comes from Absinthe Films latest project Resonance, and they claim to have compiled the “Best Snowboarding Tricks of 2012″. Regardless of the truth of this statement, the edit that they released is a highlight reel of one footers, rock transfers and steezy urban footage. Check out some next level one-footers starting at 2:53. As a sidenote, you may want to mute the soundtrack and overlay a song of your own, unless “fresh sneaks” is a regular part of your vocabulary.
The edit includes some riding from heavy hitters Travis Rice, Nicolas Muller, Bode Merrill, Gigi Ruf and many others.
Balance TV has released their latest snow based episode of Balance, in which backcountry snowboarder Joey Vosburgh talks about his work and the means that allow him to snowboard as much as his life will allow. His terrain around Revelstoke looks amazing and it’s inspiring to see a life lived in this way. I also noticed that Joey has Dynafit bindings on his splitboard, which is a next level maneuver!

As Mt. Baker continues its reign with the deepest base in North America, K2 Snowboarding has released their first episode of “Our Backyard” with plenty of footage from the Pacific Northwest backcountry. It’s pretty tough to beat Baker on a deep day with the well spaced trees, steep accessible sidecountry, and consistent snow throughout the winter. Episode 1 of “Our Backyard” features plenty of pow slashes, cliff drops and pillow pops to hopefully tide you over until the storm hits your home mountains.
