These are the wrap up videos for Session Two of SASS Global Travel’s ski and snowboard camps in Bariloche, Argentina. Despite a tough snow year, it looks like these guys managed to find some good riding and get some quality footage. Plenty of classic Catedral cliff lines in both of these videos. Nice work, SGT!

Signal Snowboarding ETT – Reel Shredding

Season 3 of Signal Snowboards’ series called Every Third Thursday kicked off today with their episode called Reel Shredding. The team’s task was to implement fly-fishing into a snowboard design.  The designers came up with a cork top sheet (a tribute to the cork handle of a fly reel), from the looks of it putting together the base graphics was tedious and time consuming. The designers then decided to give the board a swallowtail equipped with a net to be used when you’re out fishing. Then came the implementation of an actual rod into the board and took it to Abel fly reels to finish it up. The end product: A fly-fishing snowboard.

The board gets taken up to Mount Hood for some fishing and shredding. Pro boarder Yusaku Horii gets a nice catch and then takes the trout board up to the top of the Hood.

Bottom line: creative, awesome, fun

“Season 3 of Signal Snowboards ETT is here! It’s time to hook into some delicious innovation and discovery by mixing fun and manufacturing. This episode without a doubt will lure you in and make you smile as we tackle our first build of the season combining Abel fly reels and Signal snowboards for the ultimate catch and release adventure on the Mt. Hood glacier with pro snowboarder Kazu Kokubo and Yusaku Horii! So come on, take the bait and hit play!”

Brothers on the Run Episode 8: Perfect Waves in Baja

August 10th, 2012 by

In this episode of Brothers on the Run, the Jacksons make their way down the Baja Peninsula, surfing as they go. No snowboarding in this episode, but there is some really solid surfing stoke.

This episode also contains some random mishaps and encounters to round out the story line. They pick up a friendly surf bum on the side of the road. They also manage to get their truck stuck everywhere: various dirt roads across the Baja, and inside a parking garage which their vehicle was too tall to enter. To be honest, it is hard to believe these guys can pull off this road trip – they have not looked very travel savvy thus far.

Two Takes on a Marte Powder Day | 7/24

August 2nd, 2012 by

This video, filmed and edited by Matthias Weichselbaumer, shows his runs and experiences on the amazing Marte Powder Day on 7/24. Not only does it contain some fantastic footage and fun times, but it also shows a different take on the day when compared to my video from the day. I thought it would be interesting to see our days side by side. I was first chair and Matthias was second (behind all the guides and clients who cut the line 5 seconds before Marte opened, of course), but we chose different lines all day long. Watching his video, it looks like Matthias’ day was every bit as good as mine!

My day.

Brothers on the Run Episode 7: Snowboarding Volcanoes, Surfing Wake, and Driving to Mexico

July 26th, 2012 by

Episode 7 of Brothers on the Run is out, and it looks like the Jacksons have been busy for the past few weeks. In this episode they climb and ride a volcano with Jeremy Jones, visit their hometown and do some wake surfing with Tommy Czechin, then organize all their paperwork and finally cross into Mexico. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining episode that is worth watching.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the boys as they make their way through Central America. Normally, when people do this trip, they do it in an old, beat-up truck or SUV; and there’s a reason for that. Brand new, fully customized RVs that cost over $100,000 have a tendency to stand out just a bit to the local populace… Luckily for the Jacksons, once they get robbed, Red Bull will buy them a helicopter and fly them to Ushaia instead.

In all seriousness, I think that the Powder Road from Alaska to Ushaia is the pinnacle trip of American ski bumming, and I wish them luck on their adventure.

Brothers on the Run Episode 6: Baldface Lodge and Craig Kelly

In this episode of Brothers on the Run, the Jacksons start working their way south from Alaska, and make a stop over at Baldface Lodge in British Columbia. There, they pay tribute to Craig Kelly, and do some late season slush riding. Craig Kelly did a road trip from Alaska to Chile years ago, and inspired the Jackson brothers to follow in his footsteps.

If you haven’t seen Brothers on the Run yet, you should probably check out the past couple episodes:     Episode 5     Episode 4

Watch for Episode 7 on July 24, when the Jacksons go wake surfing and design jewelry in LA.
