Fast and Furious Season Edit | Gavin Smith Getting it Done

May 22nd, 2012 by

Gavin Smith is a great guy who has quickly become part of the Snowbird family. His good attitude and frequent willingness to send things makes him one of my favorite people to ride with over the past two seasons. Considering his skills and size (6’3″+) you might not believe that he is only 19 years old. As a sophomore at the University of Utah Gavin can attest to the fact that Utah is the place to be for college if skiing is your #1 priority.

I think his season edit captures some of the rowdier lines that went at Snowbird this year, opening with a solid straitline in the Forbidden that did not get hit up very often this season. Enjoy and share!

Winter is Cancelled | Kyle Greenberg Edit

February 22nd, 2012 by

Kyle Greenberg is a snow cat driving fool who likes to ski fast and take chances. He has been sessioning some of the dicier lines at Snowbird this season to keep the stoke up due to our continued lack of fresh. His edit Winter is Cancelled is a POV heavy joint that will show you how to have fun at the Bird, even if there is little to no new snow floating around out there. Plus it has a dope Dubstep soundtrack to pump you up!

Tomoki Fuse and Nikon Lense

Shooting in Hakuba backcountry JPN.

we late woke up.

couple of skier and snowboarder rode a slope when we hiking.we wants ride that…

so we have to go far way and get this slope.

looks very good for snow and ski surfer.

My camera is Nikon D700 with 70-200mm f2.8. the body is smaller and lighter than D3s.

D700 don’t have many buffer, so middle section couldn’t shoot a lot.  I’ll get D800.

anyway this lens give to me “glad” everytime.

前々日に降った雪でのライディングは白馬バックカントリー。ライダーはカラースポーツでガイドをされている布施智基氏。

Low Tide Cliff Hucking at Snowbird | Gavin Smith Edit

February 21st, 2012 by

One benefit the the epically thin season that we are having thus far this year is that the features at Snowbird are way larger than they normally would be at this point in the season. Cliffs that were 10 footers last March are currently still going at 30+ feet. The low tide out there has it looking like November still as far as what is “in” and what is “out.”  For example The High Speed Double and Femur Rock were nothing by this time last season and are super sketchy right now. Gavin Smith has been taking advantage of our unique situation this year by sending some standard moves in interesting new way. Keep up the good work man!

Highlights:

- Boosting into Jaws 0:07

- Singling the Hanging Bowl Double 0:32

- A Super GNAR left hand exit from the Flux Capacitor 0:44

- Standard Flux Capacitor 1:35

Soft Snow and Blue Skies at The Snowbird | Conditions Report Feb 3rd, 2012

February 3rd, 2012 by

Powder conditions ruled today at The Snowbird with left over snow from yesterday still in full effect. There was deep snow in the Mid Cirque and Hanging Bowl all day long and the trams were once again walk on. The word is that there is still loads of pow up on Baldy if you can hunt it down. Skies were sunny almost the whole day and even Mineral was sweet as hell.

I think there are a number of advantages to the smaller pow day, which I will now list in no particular order:

1) No canyon jam in the morning.

2) Walk on trams all day.

3) No powder panic on the hill.

4) Can get sandwich at Grits in about 3 minutes.

5) Nobody hiking Baldy.

6) Fresh lines every run.

7) No canyon jam on the way down.

8) Stoke is high and is not hindered by lift lines. (Kinda like #2, but I think this is worth 2 mentions….or is it 3.)

Bluebird Pow Day | Snowbird Conditions Jan. 24th, 2012

January 24th, 2012 by

The conditions have taken a turn for the way better at Snowbird in the last few days. The weekend storm has added coverage and powder that make all kinds of new things possible. There has been a ton of avalanche activity and patrol has been cautious about opening up more terrain so far. Mineral did not open today by the time I headed out at 2:00, which was a little surprising to me. I guess there are still a lot of things moving out there.

The pow on Silver Fox was blow up into your face light and legit face shots were had by many today for the first time this season. The lower mountain is filling in nicely and still skiing super soft. The monster bumps of last week have not re-formed yet and I hope they don’t for a while.  There is some light snow forecast for the next 24-48 hours and another storm should be here by Friday. Gotta love it when the snow machine turns on!!!

Fabbreezy | EC Steeze in the LCC | Eric Fabbri Edit

January 11th, 2012 by

Eric Fabbri moved to Utah from Back East in search of pow just like so many other skiers in Little Cottonwood. He is a quiet guy who lets his skiing do a lot of his talking for him. He also knows how to stay incognito and protect his facial skin from the suns damaging rays by rocking a bandana over his grill. This banger edit is a good reminder of why we all moved to Utah in the first place. It was not for hard snow, limited terrain and polluted air. It was so we could play at high speeds in the mountain. Thanks for the reminder Eric.

Highlights:

360 to Blackjack Moto – :015

Singling the Wheeler Double – 0:24

Backflip the Blackjack Moto – 1:00

Front Flip Smokestack – 0:56

Double Back on the Thunder Bowl Kicker – 1:46

Practice up kiddies and you too can knock out some of the coolest move at Snowbird.

Rain Pow Improves Snowbird | Unofficial Condition Report

December 29th, 2011 by

The word on the street yesterday was that it was raining all the way to the top at Snowbird and Alta. The break in the precipitation drought got us all fired up to go ski some quality Rain Pow! Rain Pow is way more fun than the hard pack we have had for the last couple weeks. An even more pleasant surprise was the gropple pounding down on the bypass road upon arrival at the Bird.

The skiing on Silverfox was much improved from the the firm mega-bumps that have been inhabiting the usually money run all season. Brady Newton was sending everything that didn’t have loads of rocks in the landing and some things that did. Winds were strong up high and the top of Little Cloud was really really cold as usual. The Tram did not run today due to high wind and Peruvian broke down temporarily which was a little bit of a bummer. Overall though today was a lot more fun that the average day this season. Pray for snow. Pray really hard….

Brant Moles Powder: April Edit

June 8th, 2011 by

Since we have not gotten to ski pow in a whopping 2 weeks I am figuring that people are jonesing to see a little more face shot action. This edit was filmed and produced by the one and only Brant Moles. Brant has been skiing the big mountain since before most of us knew what a big mountain was, before fat skis if that helps clear thing up for you.

The Hoop Gap Goes Down!

June 3rd, 2011 by

June 3rd, 2011 was one sweet spring day. Even though Summer is only 17 days away the skiing at Snowbird in still EPIC! I got to ski Pipeline today for the first time ever. The video sucked so I didn’t put it in the edit. The best part of the day was skiing Mineral with Charlie, Crazy Ray, ERic Fabbri and Becky Hall. We sacked up and hit the Hoop Gap today which we have been looking at for weeks. It is a crazy little air through a steel triangle created by a lift tower and a support beam. Tim Normand deserves the credit for discovering the Hoop Gap earlier this year. Good Times!!!
