First Descent Attempt on 45-Degree, 20,000+ Foot Laila Peak, Pakistan

June 3rd, 2012 by

Skip to 1:30 for the beginning of the interview.

Luca Pandolfi and Brendan O’Sullivan have just set off on a trip to attempt to climb and ride Laila Peak, in Pakistan. Laila offers one of the world’s most aesthetic lines, and it has never been ridden from the summit. In this Epic TV episode, Luca and Brendan sit down with Trey Cook to discuss their project.

Luca Pandolfi and Brendan O’Sullivan intend to spend seven weeks in Pakistan. They will first attempt to ride Laila, and then take some time to explore new lines around the Baltoro and K2 base camp.

Laila Peak offers one of the most beautiful ski lines in the world: a perfect 45 degree ramp descending from a steep, jagged spear. It rises out of the Gondogoro Valley to 6200 meters (20,341 feet). It was first climbed by a British team including Simon Yates (of “Touching the Void” fame) in 1987, but it has never been skied. Fredrik Ericsson attempted to ski Laila a number of times in 2005 and 2009, but came just short of the summit.

Laila Peak, in all its glory. Begging for a ski line from the summit, no?

Keep an eye on Luca Pandolfi’s blog and Chamonix Insider for updates on this adventure.

Good luck to Luca and Brendan!

Well the last MSP Contour Moments was not the final episode (as we thought) But this possibly is. Wait… probably not. MSP is in AK right now sessioning an even bigger jump. Anyway in this episode Russ Henshaw and Jacob Wester meet up with PK Hunder, Aidan Sheahan, and Richard Permin and learn to fly. Some cool action above epic backdrops and an outstanding Whislter Blackcomb sunset.

“This video provides a good tease of what you can expect to see from MSP in the fall when their 20th annual ski film releases” (NO SHIT)
