Snurfing - The act of surfing on snow. The precursor to snowboarding.

Snurfing was extremely popular in the early days of snowboarding, until Jake Burton started dominating the competition scene in the late seventies by attaching bindings to his board. “Sinking Feeling”, a short edit from Almond MFG, makes a strong argument for ditching the bindings and giving in to the natural ride of a binding-less board.  Their handmade White Wave Traction setup promises to allow you to,

“Surf the mountain on almost any snowboard or splitboard you already have. Redraw lines of seasons past. Familiar terrain has an entirely new feel.”

These bindings are handmade in Revelstoke and would be pretty rad to have in your quiver on a waist deep day.

Only a single day after Poor Boyz released Karl Fostvedt’s segment from WE, Contour comes out with a quick POV edit from Sean Pettit. Highlights include Sean’s massive cliff air to pillow 360 at 0:51.

GoPro just launched their all new GoPro Hero 3, and the man, myth and legend of POV got a chance to try it out.  Check out Andrew Whiteford as he slays some brown (and some white!) pow on his bike, as Fall begins to slip away and we head closer to that wonderful time of winter.

This clip starts out a little slow.   Maël Brasey  is skiing with a speed wing down some lousy snow in Chamonix.  Around 1:10 things get interesting.  The snow stops, and Maël treats the rocky terrain as if it was a grassy field. This guy is nuking slow close to the rocks that one simple mistake would end the day/his life pretty quickly.  It is all POV, but it is worth a view.

Sage ripping pow laps in his backyard of Alta and Snowbird.  You can tell just by the way Sage ski’s into the zones he knows exactly where he is going and where the launches are and the landings are.  Fun to see just how smooth and fast he ski’s.  Always a pleasure.

POV cameras were invented for riders like Dave Short. Riding sweet lines at full speed can’t be shown any better way in my opinion, and this episode is full of sweet lines being ridden at full speed.

This episode gets me stoked! Mr. Short rips some laps in the Pemberton sled country, and makes me wonder why jib kids from Quebec get so much hype when Dave’s throwing hammers like this on a daily basis.

Matchstick Productions just released a new episode in their Contour Moments series. This one is all shot in Whistler – in the Backcountry with Blackcomb Aviation.   The goods come at the end when James Heim rebates a massive cork 7 to stomper. Plus if you wanna watch chicks ski Michelle Parker shreds some lines. The YouTube description says that a different MSP trip was canceled because of high Avi Danger (im Guessing in the Interior) and the crew ended up posting up in Whistler. Well, Whistler is rad so they made the right choice.
