PNW Stoke | “Our Backyard” Chapter 3

December 20th, 2012 by

K2 Snowboarding has a pretty kickass backyard.  The next door neighbors in Whistler B.C. have some nice turf as well, which is where Chapter 3 of “Our Backyard” takes place. Looks like Pillow-topia and the K2 team of Danny Larsen, Matt Belzile, Robbie Walker, Shaun McKay, Jake Kuzyk as well as guest Leanne Pelosi have themselves quite the time up there.  Way to keep things powdery K2!

Episode 2 goes heavy on the slo-mo pow with an appearance of the fabled Mt. Baker Road Gap, pioneered by none other than Shawn Farmer. (See Below)

Baker Stoke Reel “Our Backyard” | Episode 1

November 29th, 2012 by

As Mt. Baker continues its reign with the deepest base in North America, K2 Snowboarding has released their first episode of “Our Backyard” with plenty of footage from the Pacific Northwest backcountry.  It’s pretty tough to beat Baker on a deep day with the well spaced trees, steep accessible sidecountry, and consistent snow throughout the winter.  Episode 1 of “Our Backyard” features plenty of pow slashes, cliff drops and pillow pops to hopefully tide you over until the storm hits your home mountains.

Pacific NW Webisodes – “Our Backyard” Teaser

November 9th, 2012 by

This is a teaser for the latest and greatest from K2 Snowboarding, a webisode series titled “Our Backyard”. This series shows the K2 team riders living the Mt. Baker dream.  Word on the street is there will be new clips every other tuesday until the first week of January.  From the look of it, it features some Mt. Baker shenanigans, as well as the fabled Mt. Baker road gap at (1:05).

From K2 Snowboarding:

“Snowboarding is passion, snowboarding is inspiring and creative; it’s high fives and powder mustaches. Many of the best days to be had are in white out conditions, in the heart of the storm, yet fully comforted by the solitude of the trees. This is snowboarding in the Pacific Northwest, in our own backyard.

The true beauty of snowboarding, though, is that every person has they’re unique outlook and whether your backyard is Mt. Baker or a golf course in West Virginia we encourage you to explore that territory and reacquaint yourself with the comfort that snowboarding brings. The friendships that it strengthens and the excitement it instills.

Follow along as we portray our season every other Tuesday from now until the start of January. This is “Our Backyard,” where’s yours?”

Pow and Chow Episode 1 – “Truck Yeah”

This series is from last winter, but it is a good reminder of how fun ripping the resort with your buddies can be. Sometimes it can be twice much more fun, even three times much more fun, but it all depends on how many buddies you have with you.

The first episode of Pow and Chow finds K2 Rider Tim Eddy making some parking lot breakfast fuel and then heading up Mt. Baker.  The pow gets slashed, high fives are traded where appropriate (including a high five with a tree) and a good time is had by all.  After a tough day of shreddin’ Tim takes us back to the cozy canopy of his truck where he instructs us on what sounds like a delicious coconut curry.

Hopefully K2 will keep this Pow and Chow going this year, I feel like cooking shows and ripping pow are a great combination.

Gigi Ruf /// First Run at Red Bull Supernatural | Contour Edit

What a cool view of the Red Bull supernatural venue.  Those pillow stacks are for real!  Gigi Ruf absolutely mashes this first run with a huge pillow send, 360 pillow tap, BIG method, POW slash, natural 3, and onto the massive booter.  Where he pulls a floaty 7 onto a sweet powder shmear which slows him down to just miss the king bonk hot tubbing in the epic snow.  Nice work!

Mt. Baker Conditions Report /// April 15 – Last Day for Park

April 16th, 2012 by

Sunday April 15, 2012 Mt. Baker is now in weekend operations for the month of April.  Today was the last day of the Pinky Park being open, and it was sunny for most of the day allowing some young rippers to work on their park skillz.  Check out the one footed board grab in the middle of the vid.

Without any real new snowfall the skiing was less than impressive just adding one more day to the year and getting some “face shots” of sun and that precious commodity we cherish so much in the PNW, vitamin D.
