Two Huge Tips from the Top FWT Riders | Barkered and Tabke Share Some Knowledge

April 7th, 2013 by

0

Reine Barkered has made his way from the FWQ (Freeride World Qualifier) to the top of the FWT (Freeride World Tour) over the last 5 season. He and Drew Tabke have been battling for the top spot for the last few years, so he is no stranger to competition and pressure. As a long time competitor I think his story and the advice he gives in this edit is valuable to any freerider interested in the FWQ or FWT. Having fun, being focused and knowing yourself are all super important if you want to succeed in any sport. Especially one that puts you on top of a huge face littered with cliffs, trees and rocks. Reine loves this sport and has found his way to the top. Congrats to him ont he hard work!

Drew Tabke is a former Snowbird/Alta skier who has been at the freeskiing game for a long long time. We used to ski together at Alta on his lunch breaks from turning screws at the Deep Powder House. Drew is an amazing competitor, who knows how to pick and line and really turn it on during his comp runs. His ride to the top of the competitive freeskiing world didn’t take too long due to his amazing skiing skills and tremendous physical and mental strength. In this edit he talks a bit about picking your line and the importance of knowing the venue in your head. Drew has always been know for taking unique lines, so learn from his advice and take it to the hill. Congrats to Drew for just barely edging out Reine for the FWT Championship this season.

I love this game and I can’t wait for the Snowbird comp next week and a chance to make the FWT in the future. Ski safe and have fun:)

Cool Park City Superpipe Video… what went down at the US Grand Prix

February 13th, 2013 by

This past weekend the best park and pipe skiers in the world headed to Park City, UT to compete in a Platinum level superpipe Grand Prix event. Platinum essentially means “Olympic Qualifier.” The event also showcased a Paul Mitchell Big Air Progression session.

The Paul Mitchell Big Air was won by Gus Kenworthy with a double 14 tail, Alex Schlopy in second with a double 16 tail, and Joss Christensen with a double 12 japan.  Nicky Keefer cashed in with a G note with his rodeo 9 safety winning Best Air for the level of style Nicky is known for.

The event was in Park City for the superpipe however. With the Olympics debuting Superpipe and Slopestyle next year, the best superpipe skiers in the world were all here trying to be invited to the party. You had the Canadians Mike Riddle, Matt Margetts, and Simon D’artois.  The Wells family was representing with Jossi and his 17 year old brother Beau-James who qualified for finals for the first time. Frenchmen Kevin Rolland, Thomas Krief, and Benoit Valentin also qualified for finals.  Simon Dumont, Torin-Yater Wallace, David Wise, Tucker Perkins, and a 16 year old Crested Butte wiz kid Aaron Blunck.

Each athlete had two runs to impress the judges and the competition was pretty insane. Standing in the start gate you see this competition is about pushing yourself, yet it’s also a huge get together of friends pulling for one another.  The start gate is an interesting place before any competition. Every athlete has their own individual way of getting into the zone. Here, it was Jossi Wells arm around his brother Beau-James seconds before he dropped in offering encouragement and advice. It was Matt Margetts trying to stoke out everyone in the start gate by stating he’d be bringing moon rocks back after his first hit (which he did with a gigantic Flat 5 Japan).  It was also Simon who is calm, collected and adjusting his music. They all are uniquely focused when the starter says “the pipe is yours” and they drop in.

Mt. Hood Summer Shred VIDEO for SnowGlobe

October 15th, 2012 by

Earlier this summer Kaya Lampe from Sessions Outerwear put together a trip up to Mt Hood to film a short video with several local groms. These 4 kids represent motivation, talent, and drive.  They are also 4 really good kids that are enjoyable to be around on- and off-the-hill.

Kaya Lampe, Hunter Simpson, Rals White, Mike Jones, Charlie Ingalls heading up to Mt. Hood.

This video will be featured at SnowGlobe December 29-31 and features 2 of the artists who will be appearing. I was stoked with the summer shredding and fully expect to see big things from all 4 of these guys this winter.  The level of talent beginning to develop with the young Tahoe park skiers is already impressive. With a facility like Woodward just down the street, it’s going to skyrocket. Super-groms Cody Laplante and Aspen Spora are just a few years behind and we could see some new Tahoe Olympians in the coming years. Good luck guys and keep killin it.

I was stoked on the music and it got me excited about SnowGlobe this winter. The skiing starts at :41 seconds in.

Crushing Alta Liftie Style | Jarrett Smith Season Edit

May 30th, 2012 by

This is a Very solid season edit from Jarrett Smith. This edit reminds me of some top notch POV from Mr. Andrew Whiteford from last season in Jackson. Jarrett reps Alta, UT and is…. <gasp>… a liftie.  I am impressed by a a number of the moves in this edit as well as his choice in music.  I am going to go out on a limb and claim hard for Jarrett, I think he is the Best Liftie in LCC.  Nice work brother, I hope we get more snow next season too…

Highlights:

Music!

Actions starts at 0:35

Great Send and Stomp of Garbage Chute at 1:00

Wild 180 at 1:15

Big Send of the Tounge-Mi Double at 1:45

Double Backflip the Stadium Jump at 2:55

High Speed Stomps all the way to the end.

Jarrett’s Words:

With the hopes of another epic La Nina this season was pretty much a let down for most of us in LCC. With the lowest snowfall in recent memory, good days this year were few and far between. I can count on one hand the number of pow days I skied. I can count on several more hands the number of times I said to myself, “I hope there are no rocks under there.” Yet I still managed to have fun on low snow pack and variable conditions. This edit takes place in Alta, UT and it’s through the eyes of a lifty. This is me trying to make something from nothing.
