Fresh With More on the Way

March 21st, 2011 by

After watching Better Off Dead last night it was mandatory to ski th K-12 first thing this morning.  It was pretty damn good and the light was much better than I expected it to be. There was more fresh snow than you could shake a stick at in Tiger Tail. It was rad to get first tracks out there for the first time this season. The runouts under the Forbidden Zone was amazingly smooth again too.

Heavy Wind and Creamy Snow @ Snowbird

March 19th, 2011 by

Heavy wind, creamy snow, and flat light were all on tap today at Snowbird.  It was a mellow day of cruising around with friends. As usual the wind made things extra tasty on Silver Fox. I would say it was about as crowded as ever on the Fox. We gang skied  Macaroni today with about 5 bros and 3 beaters at the same time.

Cream Pow-Pow at Snowbird

March 17th, 2011 by

The springtime cream pow is a thing of beauty. The official report for last night was 9″ of new. I will confirm that the amount of snow was somewhere around 9″. Some places a little more, some a little less. Either way it did a hell of a good job covering up the bumps that have been forming up all over the Bird.

My Comp Run on Silver Fox: Freeskiing Championships 2011

March 16th, 2011 by

This past weeks World Freesking Championships competition at Snowbird was really emotional for me. It took me a few days to be able to watch the helmet cam footage from my run.  I know some people don’t dig on comp skiing and talk trash on the skiers that go up there and show the world what they’ve got. Well screw those people! They don’t have the skills or the guts or maybe neither to stand in that start gate and ski in front of judges, friends, fans and the whole damn interweb.

Another day is in the books at Snowbird. The wind buff was in full effect today after heavy winds yesterday and all last night smoothed out the mountain to the max. The sun was out and there was a solid spectating crowd for Day 1 of the US Freeskiing Nationals on Silver Fox.

Deep Snow and Reggae

March 10th, 2011 by

The last seven days of skiing have been epic. Now that the sun is back out the snow is not so deep anymore.  Oh well, it was a good run of powder skiing days. Bo Torrey sent me this edit from those deep days earlier season and it made me smile. I hope it makes you smile too!

Too Much Fun at Alta and Snowbird

March 7th, 2011 by

After the mega sleeper day yesterday people packed into LCC early this morning. I got the the tram at 8:30am and it was a 4 tram wait. F*ck that! I walked back to the bypass and headed to Wildcat. 9th chair at 9:00am, you gotta love the kitty. It didn’t snow as much last night as I thought it would have, but the pow was creamy and plentiful. Most of the folks that were up first thing in the morning were gone by 11:00am and the snow actually held up really well.

Two Backcountry Runs with Ralph Backstrom

Last storm cycle brought us some wonderful light pow.  After it settled for a couple days, it would form into little pow balls when you would slash it, sort of what I expect the snow in Japan to look like.
