Helmet Saves Boy’s Life in Alyeska Snowboard Crash

March 27th, 2014 by

6-year-old Liam Dudley was skiing with his family at Alyeska, Alaska when a snowboarder crashed into the boy smashing his helmet to bits. The blow left Liam with a gash on his head that required six staples, but if the boy was not wearing a helmet things could have been far worse.

“To think about what would have happened if he wasn’t wearing a helmet is pretty freaky,” said Matt Dudley, Liam’s father.

Blackout Edit = Bottomless Pow, Pillows & Double Corks in Revelstoke, BC / Haines, Alaska

March 24th, 2014 by

Blackout from DRFTWD on Vimeo.

Blackout showcases bottomless pow, pillow lines and double corks in Revelstoke, BC as well as steep, technical lines in Haines, Alaska.
The action is complemented nicely by a story line that portrays a contrast between ski-bumming in the winter and Heli-skiing dream lines in the spring. Colston was knocked out during the crash in the middle of the video, While he was out he dreamt of skiing crazy terrain, and was shocked when he woke up in the mountains.

Crash of the Week – Ted Ligety Crash In AK | Tumbles Off Cliff

February 23rd, 2014 by

This is what Ted Ligety had to say about the video of his Alaska crash, and obviously it describes what you see in the video better than I can:

“I had already skied this line a couple times with no problems and the light had gotten too bad to film so I took one last run for fun with my GoPro on. I hit a piece of hard snow or rock while my sluff took out my tails simultaneously. Luckily I was just able to get onto my feet but not in balance before the cliff. 2nd big fall of the trip, first one I lost my other GoPro so no footage.” – Ted Ligety YouTube description

We’ve all been there, the one last run that goes wrong. That’s why we ski 2 more and skip the last. It’s a good sized cliff that Ligety half falls off/half sends from the looks of the footage. It’s also a good thing he wasn’t any farther left and he had some speed off the cliff. I think his own title is a bit misleading though, and I would call this a recovery rather than a fall. Great sunset behind him though.

The Best Snowboard Movie of all Time?

December 19th, 2013 by

Best snowboard movie of all time?  Answer = Yes.

Zach Galifinanakis’ best movie?  Answer = Yes.

This movie has got some funny sh#t in it.  The trailer makes it come off like Aspen Extreme on snowboards, but it’s more like the dirbags vs the rich people…wait, that is Aspen Extreme, too, right?  Either way, if you haven’t seen this, you’re blowing it.

“You all know the rules of King of the Mountain.  First one to the bottom with the most beer in your glass shall be proclaimed this year’s King of the Montain.”

“Pushing, shoving, & cheating are encouraged.- pink

Any parallels to KSL in Squaw here?  mmm, mmm, mmmm?
