NOAA is reporting that a record low temperature of -14 degrees was set at South Lake Tahoe, CA today. This breaks the old record of -6 in 2007. But South Lake Tahoe is not the only place setting record low temperatures this week. Yesterday, the town of Ramona in eastern San Diego County recorded a low of 23 degrees, breaking the 24 degrees set in 2007.

This is a far cry from the lowest natural temperature ever recorded at the surface of the Earth, −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F) which was set at the Soviet Vostok Station in Antarctica, on July 21, 1983.

Why is climate change such a suprise to people? It has been changing since the start of this great planet! It has cooled and heated and cooled for millions of years. Weather patterns have been morphing as the planet grinds on day after day. Do not be jaded into thinking this is some new “problem” caused by human actions. We (humans) will one day be killed off by a drastic changes in earths weather and its effects on our food supplies. The dinosoars all died.

Chin up though everyone! Today is not that day!! This cold weather is making for some great snow conditions here in Tahoe.

That is an intellectually lazy argument that conveniently avoids science. But a funny thing happens when the science is taken into consideration…. you become even more wrong.

Did you really post a link for a blog called “skeptical science” and expect me to think you have any real understanding of science?
You do know how to use google, and select a page that seems to have some valid facts. You may have read this blog and maybe even commented. The only problem I have is that this is a link to a blog. No credits to and actual studies are referenced anywhere. Go read a paper am actual scientists has written on an actual study involving climate change.
Then post a link for that paper.

and that is why people are stupid: They formulate a passionate opinion on something they know absolutely nothing about. Worse yet, that opinion, which was manifested over the course of one whole minute, becomes fact in their mind and is used to back up their argument.

Dear BoGnar, if you had actually spent the time to read further and find out what skepticalscience.com really was instead of dismissing it after the two seconds it took you to label it as a blog, you would find that it said this: Skeptical Science is maintained by John Cook, the Climate Communication Fellow for the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland. He studied physics at the University of Queensland, Australia. After graduating, he majored in solar physics in his post-grad honours year. He is not a climate scientist. Consequently, the science presented on Skeptical Science is not his own but taken directly from the peer reviewed scientific literature. To those seeking to refute the science presented, one needs to address the peer reviewed papers where the science comes from (links to the full papers are provided whenever possible)

ha give the guy who’s right negative votes. This site is nothing but gapers. Mr. BoGnar is partially correct in that the planet’s climate has been constantly changing throughout its history, but very incorrect to think we are jaded when attributing it to human actions. Our planet is also changing at a faster rate than EVER before and experiencing more extreme weather patterns than ever before and to think humans have nothing to do with that is plain ignorant of fact and science.

the stupidity hurts, it’s the rate of change that matters. As in too quick and species can’t adapt. Of course this round of heating is caused by human actions but it’s happening in a hundred years rather than a hundred thousand

our bars are insanely shitty. Of course the climate has fluxuated over the course of the planets existence, no one will argue against that. The problem that we are facing is that the climate has fluxated greatly since the time our parents or grandparents were born, not over the course of thousands of years like ice core records and tree rings indicate. Punch yourself in the nuts for being in the minority of people who say stuff like that. Humans are no longer small bands on the frontier of the wilderness, we are every where and doing damage to the earth on a scale that was simply unimaginable just a century ago.
