U.S. Forest Service officials at Lake Tahoe are offering the public a chance to “ski with a ranger” at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Heavenly operates on Forest Service land under a long-term recreational lease agreement. The program is designed to allow skiers an opportunity to learn about Tahoe’s natural history, including wildlife, forest health, and the lakes cultural history.

The program also hopes to educate the public on controlling erosion, which is suspected of contributing to the decline of water quality in Lake Tahoe.

The hour-long program will run from January 18th till April 12th on Mondays and Fridays, at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Tours begin at the top of the Heavenly Gondola. No reservations are required.
