Back before snowboarding changed the way people skied, skiers were still laying down some gnarly lines. Starting in 1991, the World Extreme Championship would gather a group of ripping skiers in Valdez, AK to crown a champ. This clip is from the second year of the comp when Garrett Bartelt crossed up his long, skinny skies at the top of tis run and had a quality fall. The footage isn’t the best quality, but the sweet voice over makes up for that.

“He’s got to be hurt”, you think?
FML that looked so awful!!
+1 for drinkin a brew in the hospital
I like how they can’t pronounce “Valdez”.
Good thing his hair cushioned the blows to his head.
Whaddya mean “…snowboarding changed the way people ski…”? Bullshit!
I still have both feet pointing forward, and my hips and shoulders square to the fall line! Always have, always will!
The only impact snowboarding has on my skiing experience (besides, width/sidecut/rocker ratios and baggier skiwear) is that they FUCK UP the hill! Squared off bumps with no consistent line, ridiculous trenches and fuckin post-holes on traverses!
“…snowboarding changed the way people ski…”
You’re an idiot!!!
ok, so besides changing the skis themselves (“width/sidecut/rocker ratios”), no impact. got it.
Well if you are such a purest, show us your 210′s skinnys
wow that was one crazy crash – and then having a beer in hospital – classic!
I am consistantly surprised and impressed with the amount of negative shitty posts I see on this site. Its a fun site. Enjoy it, why does it piss you off so much?
