Yep, you read that right. After 11 Years Tanner Hall Dropped by Red Bull

Last night Tanner Hall posted this update to his instagram account, tannerhall420: After 11 years of hard work for Red Bull and everything I have done and been through they decided to drop me last night. Guess they don’t believe in me but it’s gonna be bitter sweet proving them wrong. #redbull #movingontobiggerandbetterthings

    @Feeney,

What exactly was so asinine about that? Perfectly normal view on extreme skiing and what its about… its about pushing the envelope and breeching boundaries… doing the impossible if you will. Thirty years ago, most couldn’t imagine what people are doing today in the extreme skiing/riding world… and had you imagined it and expressed that to another skier, they would have probably called you totally crazy.

The reality, they probably dropped him because he likes to party, and does so fairly openly. Just BS politics. Rip that shit Thall.

Its less about what Tanner says than how he says it. In the same segment Chris Davenport spoke about the risks of backcountry in a composed and orderly manner that comes across a introspective and insightful; the type of guy you want to go into the BC with. Tanner sounds like a 15 yr old on caffeine high ready to put himself into any situation with reckless disregard for his own life. Whether or not that is the actual case, its the image that he chooses to portray and not one that makes a 28 yr old look like a good product spokesman.

Freeny…You hit the nail on the head…Not the kind of person I want representing our sport….There are way better people that are just as rad or radder that should be taking his place….Im not trying to knock Tanner in any way on his accomplishments as he is a BAD ASS..But people who are sponsored by companies like Red Bull are representing all of us and I can think of way better choices than Tanner Hall….

Companies like Redbull don’t represent skiing. They aren’t a skiing company, they don’t represent skiing an any official way, nor do they speak on behalf of skiing. They aren’t even a sports company. They are a energy drink company, they represent the energy drink industry. Their target audience is male youth, which means they buy advertising by sponsoring athletes, and events. They represent skiing to the same degree that Hostess Twinkies would represent skiing if they got into sponsoring athletes and events in an attempt to boost sales.

I might even make an argument that Tanner Hall doesn’t represent skiing. He’s one dude that represents one type of personality that might be found in risk sports. It’s a stretch to think anyone believes he is what all skiing and skiers are all about any more than anyone would think that a weinerdog is what all dogs are like.

I would have to disagree with you and your stance on Red Bull not being a sports company.

Just look at what Red Bull has done for the sports they are involved in. Look past the fact that Red Bull is liquid crack. It is a company that has provided athletes with the chance to push the limits beyond anyone’s iminagation.

Red Bull is with out a doubt a part of sports. It is a sponcer, promoter, event orgnizor

Ok, yes, Redbull has invested a OMFG amount of money into emotionally linking their brand with sports, and they have been (obviously) very successful at changing your perception that they are indeed a sports company. The fact that it has worked is a testament to how easily manipulated our perceptions are.

But they aren’t a sports company. No matter how many “envelope pushing” athletes, projects, and events they plaster their name onto… they are really just marketing their brand which sells a drink that isn’t even healthy. And some of the projects Redbull sponsors are overly dangerous and actually quite reckless… they are in it for the publicity. Successful projects get attention, ones that go horribly wrong get a lot more. The more risky the idea, the better it’ll likely be for Redbull.

At this point I’d say they are more a marketing company than they are a sports company.

But whatever you think is true I guess.

That’s what happens when you act like a arrogant duche. Redbull pays for you to travel, train, compete, and ski. They don’t need to have their company represented in a negative way no matter your ability level.

Next time don’t flip out on the people hosting your sponsor’s training camp.

For all those bagging on Tanner because he is not a good guy…Clearly you haven’t met the guy…he could not be a nicer and more genuine person who simply just loves to ski. Of course when he was much younger, he was nothing short of a punk, but still a great skier. Now, he is still a great skier and a great spirit. I’ve had the opportunity to talk with him a little and I have a buddy who works at Armada and knows him pretty well. Tanner is just like every powder loving skier I have met…he just wants to shred and share the good times with his buddies. Just leave the guy alone, let him ski, train for the olympics, and do whatever else he does. (also, he is not smoking weed right now and only has a few beers now and then…definitely not the same young and reckless dude he once was.) Just thought you guys would wanna know this

I bet tanner hall is a really cool guy. He shreds for a living. How much a of a jerk could he be? IO have never hung out with some one who skis everyday and is a jerk, their life is just too good. It is typical for young male athletes and stars to play off a certain persona to seem cool, and not have it work for some. who cares? Let him express his inner self however he feels. In fact all young people try to find their own groove. I would smoke bowls with tanner anytime. I love the fact that he shreds at skiing and is open about smoking weed. shows weed is not evil. Red Bull is hypocritical for dropping him, When the facts are really examined that red bull shit is bad for you, and weed is not.

He should ride for companies that are healthy fair and good for athletes, companies that make people better inside and out, not companies that just want to make a profit no matter how bad of a product they produce. Red Bull should be illegal to sell to minors and should have warning labels on their product. Such a horrible thing to push on young up and coming athletes, our bodies need to be taken care of, especially when we do what we do. I hope this allows Tanner to make a better choice as a face and go for companies that care about their riders, consumers and product. I know everyone wants to make a buck, why not try and help your fellow athletes and sell something worth speaking for!
