Jim Niehues has been painting ski resort trail maps for 25 years.  You know his work.  You’ve seen it many times.

Jim’s website shows that he has painted at least 74 ski resort trail maps in the USA and internationally.

Jim’s maps include:

- Alta, Alyeska, Big Sky, Crested Butte, Jackson, Heavenly, Mt. Baker, Mt. Hood, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Taos, Telluride, Winter Park, Whistler, Kicking Horse, Valle Nevado, Revelstoke, more.

HOW JIM DOES IT:

“Each view is hand painted by brush and airbrush using opaque watercolor to capture the detail and variations of nature’s beauty. Once the project is initiated, reference material, topo maps and aerial photography are gathered to compose the view. A comprehensive sketch is produced of the perspective for the client’s review and approval before rendering the final color. When the final color is approved the illustration is sent to the photo lab for an 8×10 inch transparency. Jim then personally scans the image and makes extensive color corrections using Photoshop, usually delivering 300 meg scans to the client, completing a blend of artistry and technology.” – Jim Niehues’ website

Pretty cool gig, Jim.  Keep it up.

His heavenly map sucks. The terrain is way off. I like his art though, his art as a map is another story..

  4. I’m on the fence here. Cool to see who this he is after seeing his name for years and always liked looking at his maps more then ones done by others. That being said, I’ve been fucked up more then once by his maps too so i guess its a wash.

Cooler job then I have though, thats for sure.
