Except I have skied there, and I did the whole route down from Aguille du Midi. I saw tons (hundreds?) of people with harnesses and ropes and not a single one using any of that gear. I totally understand it for the more technical routes that branch off. But the people who skied the easy route down the Mer de Glace just seemed to be wearing all that gear for show.
You wear a harness for glacier in case you need rescued and some people rope up to walk down the ridge when with a guide. There are many routes down tp the mer de glace some steep and heavily crevassed but if you saw lots of people u were probably on the standard easy tourist route!
Hmm, Cham has a different definition of “fresh.” Sweet lines though! Wanna speedfly there in the worst way…
i wonder how tram dog is
I’ve never understood why they wear harnesses there. If you aren’t roped, good luck with it, even in a crevasse.
In any case I’d be happy to be doing that right now
obviously you havent done much glacier skiing or travel. probably never been to cham and rappelled into a couloir either…
in case they do wanna rope up and for crevasse

a little to steep for me
The gear is so you can perhaps help out other people that might fall into a crevasse. I see they don’t have the ropes up yet.
