This video, #1 Skier Dad, is a fine example of mountain rage.

On a perfect sunny day up on Blackcomb mountain, some of the FT crew were faced with a small confrontation. luckily for the crew a brave snowboarder man called berto was able to resolve the situation without using violence. The composure, leading example, and mannerism’s of these two father figures has now given me no hope for the future. WTF.

Questions

1. Have you ever experienced mountain rage or seen it go down on the mountain?

2. Who was in the wrong?

Grow up and better yet, don’t go to SKI areas where you might encounter SKIERS. Go to a resort developed by and for snowboarders only, if you can find one. Try to get along or don’t leave your cave aggro boy.

I spent a night in the hospital in austria last weekend because some asshole snowboarding fucking idiot ran into me when I had clear right of way. They should have their own hills so they can sit on their two digit IQ asses in the snow and ruin it for each other and not for the skiers, who’ve actually put years into learning the art . I don’t feel like either of them were in the right. The kids were riding pretty recklessly on a high traffic groomer for how many people were on the run, and one of them almost took out his buddy. I’d be upset if I had kids or if I were an intermediate and people who should know better were cutting me off or jumping into my path. That being said, punching the kid was way out of line, and it not only endangered him, but everyone skiing behind him. Someone could have died. Both groups were morons, but the dad easily takes the cake. If someone is bothering you, let them go away… you’re not going to suddenly invoke a revelation of thoughtfulness on somebody.

Yup, they are so tough. “good” fighters never provoke a fight cause they know they will probably kill or maim their opponent and that’s another can of worms. You “kids” think you pump some weights and do push ups every and look like Jacob from Twilight you’re tough, you got another thing coming. One day you will meet someone that will call you on your fight and put you in a wheelchair and sipping out of a straw for the better part of your adult life.

Me, I prefer to get my ass kicked, I know I can put the other guy’s head through his snowboard, but I will benefit more from the lawsuit, a little pain for a lot of gain.

Be careful out there you tough “Jacob” wannabes, you will meet that one person that will teach you a life long lesson :) my 2 cents.

The Dad is being challenged by a shirtless boarder to fight, I think the last thing we should be concerned about is him swearing in front of his kids. :)

A couple years ago, my wife and I were coming down the Mountain Run at Squaw and I stopped on the side of the run above Headwall, and my wife stopped just above me.
This older guy on a snowboard rolls up close to my wife, screams “watch where you’re going! You hit me and didn’t even stop!” and proceeded to knock my 4 foot 10 inch 95 pound wife off her skis!!!
Without thinking about it, I clicked out of my skis, went over and punched the dude square in the face, exploding his nose into a bloody mess.
It shocked the shit outta this douche and he kept repeating “I can’t believe you hit me!”
I asked my wife what had happened and she had no idea.
Next thing we know, the “gray on a tray’s” 2 kids show up on their little snowboards, see that their Dad is on the ground with bloody snot drenching the snow and they start freaking out!
I was going to continue the ass-kicking, but my wife freaked out and didn’t want anything more to go down in front of his kids, especially since they were screaming “don’t kill my daddy!”
I did the right thing and asked the guy if he wanted to take things to the bottom and talk to the ski patrol and sheriff, but he just wanted me to “go fuck myself.”
And then he made some shitty comment about Squaw, to which I told him how family-friendly Northstar is!
Some other people saw what was happening and stopped to talk. Turns out the snowboarder was coming up on my wife and they made opposite turns to each other and his snowboard caught the last inch of my wife’s ski which made him stack! Clearly his fault. This only made me feel better for defending my bride and blowing up the idiots face!

Fact is, the “bros” were doing stupid shit on a cat track with family on their tale. Dad was on guard after watching the one guy almost take his buddy out. Dad asked nicely and kid was a dick about it and continued the same inappropriate behavior on a cat track where inexperienced skiers have to ski to get to easier runs. Experienced skiers don’t have to ski/ride there and do that stupid shit. Dad overreacted a smidge and should have just skied the boarder off to the side of the track and went passed him. But by “pushing,” not punching by any stretch of the imagination, but pushing the kid he stepped over the line a little bit. Can’t say as I blame him but then after being confronted by the “bro squad,” all he had to say was you guys were riding unsafe around my family, I asked you nice but you kept doing it. Go do your jibbing shit elsewhere, not on the track. Sorry I pushed you but I know you will be more careful from now on. See you later guys, have a great day.” But in the heat of the moment I can see where rationale gets put on the back burner.

The way they say, “Fuck you up” is hilarious.. “Enough to fuck you up, all of you up!” too funny!..

All of the characters in this video are at fault.. on the one hand, the jibbers are jibbin’ a cat track which is lame, especially when your skiing and you just want to pass the jibbers but the jibbers keep landing in the middle of the track.. on the other hand, the skiers could have used good “old school” skier etiquette and yelled, “on your left” and stayed on the left side of the track.. I know it’s kind of difficult when you have a gang of jibbers taking up the entire cat track, but they didn’t even make the effort.

The problem that I run into with snowboarders it they don’t look before making a backside turn. It’s especially frustrating when carving sick cat track lines and you’re on skis tucking and trying to time their turn so you don’t give them a hip check.. I know the “Skier Responsibility Code” states that it’s the uphill skiers fault if a collision occurs but it’s just common sense.. When I’m hauling some serious ass on a groomer (by hauling some serious ass, I mean fucking ripping Bode style totally out of control) and carving huge super g turns, I look before cutting across the slope.. As exemplified by the chick in this video (who needs to get the fuck back in the kitchen) saying, “when you’re in front you’re in the right”, snowboarders seem to think that it’s ok to take up the entire slope without consideration of others because of the SRC!

These guys are all jerkoffs though, but if you’re gonna throw a tirade and say you’re gonna fuck someone up, you probably shouldn’t ski away like the pussy in the helmet.. Next time I get into it with someone, I’m gonna take my shirt off and see how it works out!

Oh yeah.. on another note, the helmet cam is becoming as retarted and annoying as people taking tons of photos at shows with their damn cell phones..

This is a case of two groups of people that think they are the best thing to happen to ski/snowboarding. I’ve seen it plenty of times at Northstar, Boreal, and even Squaw. In fact, my friends and I have been in similar situations, but we try to diffuse the situation calmly and because of that, we have never been even close to fighting.

IMO, both parties were at fault. The boarder-bros for riding recklessly in front of a mob of other people. The dad for making any sort of physical contact and claiming that he could beat the boarders’ ass and finally the hairy chested bro-bra taking his shirt off was pretty ridiculous.

Politeness is easy to arm chair quarterback in this case, however the snowboarders weren’t being polite at all. Not even before the incident. Being polite involves respecting those around you. Dropping the f-bomb around kids while cutting people off is not being polite. It is easy to lose your cool when people are acting like the boarders were, even easier I would imagine, when they are doing it around your kids.

Dad- you protect your kids but no one got hurt, so what’s the point. Overly protective family units need to realize that we’ve all got to share space you can’t get mad just because people get near you. I would wager that if the “offenders” were skiers he wouldn’t have done that. You can make fun of how the snowboarders are dressed but you’re friend is wearing a briko helmet with sunglasses.

Snowboarders- when challenged to a fight you lose serious GNAR points in my book if you have to sit down to unstrap. Also recieve massive deduction for filming cat track. Seriously who wants to watch that? (ignoring fact that I just did)

judgment: Dad is in the wrong for overreacting to, well, nothing.

One fellow skier had his hand broken in four places recently, by a snowboarder who crashed into him! (and, no, he didn’t punch him). Snowboarders, in general, need to grow up and act more responsibly. Some are fine, but there are too many bad actors out there. And from many many years on Whistler cat-tracks (and everywhere else) its skiers that cut people off. Boarders instictively look in thier blindside. Skiers seem to just figure; “My head is pointed down the hill, so thats the only way I’ll look. I’m so awesome, nobody’s passing me anyway”. That, and skiers (especially those like Ex-patrol skierdad here) have an ingrained stigma against snowboarders, especially ones who fit the picture of what stuck up old skiers dont like. Before you get all mad, I board and ski (though board is better!), and have kids, and would have told skierdad to fuck right off as well, and called patrol on his ass

It wasn’t that crowded. The snowboarder kids were all the way to the far right side of the trail. PLENTY of room for the dad to take his kids around to the left.

People in front of you have the right of way. Absolutely no reason on earth for the skier dad to roll up on those kids that close. ESPECIALLY when he can see that they’re dorking around on the side of the trail. If you think a pack of kids is riding recklessly – why on earth would you roll right in the middle of them with your kids, when you could easily go around?

On a side note – when did snowsports become such serious business that dicking around on a cat track and laughing at eachother is a no no? Looked like they were having fun. Good for them. I didn’t see anything out of control, I didn’t see them take anybody out. Maybe they weren’t bombing the steepest lines on the mountain, but they were having fun. Good for them. Some of you should try it some time, it might help you get that stick out of your ass.

The skier mentality is far more chill and about “Skiing” while the snowboarder attitude is about showing off, “Hey look at all my ugly ass clothes and even with a belt I cannot keep my pants over my ass.” Case in point the fact that the toolbag took his shirt off in winter to fight. maybe he though his hairy chest would scare off the Dad. For some strange reason kids or a video camera seems to make people feel self righteous (sp?). The one thing that everybody should be doing is understanding the ski rules on the hill and living to them.

Wow, the amount of anger on this blog alone makes me reconsider ‘fun’ while skiing or riding. I work at a resort, teach both skiing and snowboarding, get over a hundred days a year, and I see my fair share of terrible riders and aggressors both while in lessons and on my time off.

I get why the dad would be concerned as I’m often terrified for my students, especially with everyone using headphones and toking it up on the lift. I can handle myself but 80% of a ski resort probably can’t move fast enough to avoid someone flying at them, especially on the cat tracks or coming out of the trees. Then again, the dad was totally incorrect to physically touch anyone regardless of their indiscretion. It’s battery, one way or another.

Neither party handled it well and as usual, we find blame in everyone’s actions but our own. Both the people in the video as well as the response to the video here in these comments highlights that perfectly. The profanity and disrespect found here is amazing and so is the misogyny and homophobia. Doesn’t make you look cooler or tougher. It just makes you look like you’ve got a sharp stick incorrectly placed within your sphincter.

Neither skiers or snowboarders are going anywhere and the number of skier-specific resorts in the US is down to 4. The human population is still booming and so is the interest in skiing and riding. That means more and more people on the slopes and you’re just all so angry. We all have the same interests in mind, so let’s go be outside and have a good time with our bro-brahs and stop being a bunch dungholes. Y’all are stressing me out.

They all were out of line for letting it get to the point that it did.

I disagree, when you’re on a lift watch the hills, count how many boarders are doing tricks and how many skiers are doing it, it’s a consistent majority and it’s the boards that are doing more tricks/jumps. Every resort has a place for these tricks or jumps dedicated and if boarders are doing these in a hill where beginners are trying to ski then it’s not right. I’ve seen countless times of skiers taken out by boarders, now I’ve seen skiers do it too but no where near the amount of ones involving boarders. I’ve also been taken out by boarders myself and I’ve been skiing for 25 years. There’s no reason why these guys should be jumping and doing 360s of the edges on the cat walk, doesn’t matter how good you are, there are always beginner skiers/boarders around. Don’t forget everyone, YOU were once those beginners and now you’re better at it, you cease to care about your surroundings, that’s just plain rude and inconsiderate. Remember, there’s always someone tougher then you and probably less tolerant, next time, he might just call you on your dare to fight and put you down. Is it really worth it? Ski/Snowboard, be considerate follow the rules and have fun, don’t be an asshole. :)

I guess the so-called dad in the blue does not know when to let shit go. I’ve seen so called parents do this shit all the time on the hill. I think since thy have kids they can do whatever with no repercussions. I’ve seen parents act this way all over, not just on the hill. And guess who is in violation of the skier code when you’re the one wanting to fight…you, bitch ass “dad” in blue. You fucking cockstink…come at me and see if I don’t fuck you up, off the hill of course.

Google Snowboarding vs Skiing, snowboarding is not harder. It’s safer but not harder, recent studies have proven that. I do both, skiing is actually harder and can do what a boarder can do, but not vise versa. Ever see a boarder go down a mogul hill.. nope, unless you’re suicidal. You can do more combination of tricks with skis because our feet aren’t bind together.

Before you cuss skiers do your research. No one is tougher then the other just because they ski on one board or two. And that “I’m tough I would kick his ass” mentality, keep that up, one of these days, you will get folded like an origami and you’ll grow up then. I’ve seen it happen way too much from the type of work I do, the “tough” talkers are usually 90% of the time the ones that end up in the hospital or in the grave.

Folks, a lot of tough talk here. I’m a veteran skier and I have a lot of friends that board, they abide by the resort rules and etiquette of boarding as do I. There’s a place on every resort for doing your tricks, jumps etc. Please do it there, ya ya, you’re probably going to say “go fuck yourself” but think about this, if you ever take out someone out doing something somewhere when it’s not permitted and it’s your fault and you put that someone or some kid in a hospital, you will suffer the consequences, you’re not indestructible and you’re not exempted because you may be a minor. How would you feel if you’re little sister or brother was on the hill and he/she was put in a hospital because some idiot skier/boarder ran into them, you would probably react the same way as that dad.

Be careful, be considerate, have fun snowboarding and skiing, respect each others space.

I believe the dad was indeed, out of line. However, the snowboarders were being somewhat reckless in their “technique”, especially on a crowded trail. Just the fact that they were dressed in very large hoodies and shiny goggles show that they were most likely the douchebags of the slope. Their excessive use of the word “fuck” also supports that as well. Bottom line, both were out of hand, however, the skier should not have escalated the argument and the snowboarders should not have considered having a fist fight on the slope…

That trail is always too crowded. Just stay off it and skip the reckless and the raging.

AFter being missed by a boarder at about 35 MPH (It looked like 50 but at 67
I’ve skied long enough to know) I confronted him (rather loudly) in the lift line.
Being a surgeon, I offered him an on the spot splenectomy the next time he got
    within skipole range.
I would have offered him a lobotomy but, obviously , somebody beat me to it. I also pointed out that his fancy helmet was a waste of money, as there was nothing inside it to protect.
I got a round of applause from several of the skiers standing around, and even one boarder said “Good job, man”. I think he was an imposter as he used neither the word ‘dude’ or ‘awesome’.
This was only one of several close calls that day at “Heavenly” Valley.
The last time I skied there, on a late season weekday and nearly empty mountain, I was hit three times.
I think the boarders and skiers need to be separated, as I cannot guarantee
restraint the next time a boarder, sitting helplessly strapped to his board says,
“You turned in front of me, dude!”
Of course, a free splenectomy is always a good deal, particularly for someone who will almost certainly need one sooner or later.
    Awesome.

While I am a skier and not a boarder, your attitude just, absolutely, sucks. I certainly hope you DO stab someone with your ski pole as they will soon be very rich and the only doctoring you will be doing will be on your abused anus.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

If you are continuously being hit by people, you may want to look in the mirror for the problem, genius.

People get cut off all the time, the snowboarder was in control and obviously did not run into anybody….. this place looked so crowded if that #1 skier dad thought about the situation he was putting his kids in, he should have gone to the bunny hill or somewhere where it was less crowded. I see an assault charge caught on camera, I would be pressing charges against this #1Skier dad.
