UPDATE: Langley McNeal NOT Disqualified for Sarah Burke Armband | DQed Due to Leg “Strap”
Editors note: This is a developing story, below is the information currently available to UnofficialNetworks.com. We’re waiting for an official statement from X Games.
Earlier this afternoon, Langely McNeal (USA) was disqualified for wearing a Sarah Burke armband in the women’s Skier X event. Langley had advanced to the finals, before being disqualified. Although reports around the incident are hard to find, it appears as though the French team protested McNeal’s wearing of the armband.
Preliminary reports indicate that the disqualification was due to regulations in Skier X, limiting the clothing an athlete may wear in order to make him/herself more aerodynamic. Although this may have been a Skier X regulatory issue, it appears X Games has been doing its best to mute the incident. Subsequently, the X Games Facebook page has deleted all comments related to the event.
This appears to be an outrageous display of classlessness, even for the French. Please post your support for McNeal below, or let X Games know how you feel via Facebook or Twitter.

But, according to the X games Vice president statement, she was disqualified because her trousers had straps, and it is cleary forbidden in the X Games rules. It is a shame that she resorted to using the death of a fellow skier to get her way out of a violation. What everybody on this fuckin’ feed doesn’t get is that it doesn’t fucking matter. Every athlete associated with ski or boardercross knows that it’s against the rules to wear bands to tighten clothing. If she was wearing baggier clothing than the rest of the athletes, it’s her own damn fault. Listen to all the experts here! People that watch on TV or online or saw photos of her/our clothing!!! Everyone in that race, racers World Cup except Langley because she retired. Everyone is wearing the correct clothing and with the correct measurements of the fabric.
There were comments made by teams/athletes about Langley’s clothing through out the week, even before she started in qualifying but she didn’t do anything about this.
Langley has been around long enough and know the rules inside and out. No one is wearing “spandex clothing”. Langley is clearly pissed off and attacking which every way she can. In some ways she has every right to be a little pissed because they should have DQ’d in qualis or at least warned her.
I am very disappointed in Langley for taking this so far and if I see her in the near future I will definitely let her know.
Nat Holland is 100% correct and I’m also glad the Frenchies have been standing up for them selves here. They have every right to protest, just like someone has a right to protest for pushing or grabbing. Rules are made to protect the athletes and the sport. We all try to do our best by sticking to them and if you don’t, you pay the consequences.

No actually, “Lange” wasn’t a threat to me or any of the girls racing. She got through to finals because I got caught up with the SUI girl in the semis and we caused 4 out of the 6 girls to crash. If you watch the replay, Langely was far enough behind to not get caught up in it.
Besides that, I was happy for her that she got through to finals. Whether she got DQ’d or not, I would have held my place to start in the finals. The protest never reflected on me!
You’re right, I’ve never won a SkierX race internationally but I’ve done well enough to be on the podium in most pro events since I started ski cross 7 years ago. Not so lucky in WC because yep, it is tougher. I’ve had a few podiums and yes, I would like more. Yep, I’m old but I’m not the oldest on tour either so no, that doesn’t frustrate me at all!
I got my invite after finishing 6th in St Johann… Yep, again, not a podium but I still got the invite 3 weeks out from x games, way before they started getting desperate and hunting down last minute athletes such as Langely. It doesn’t matter HOW you get to go to an event. Ski Cross isn’t always about luck but it can play a HUGE part 70% of the time!
Yep, if Marielle didn’t fall, I may or may not have got bronze… but she did and that is ski cross. If I didn’t crash in the semis, Langely would never have been DQ’d because she would never have made finals any other way!

• This is the X Games. This is the first DQ as a result of clothing in the 16 year history of the X Games.
• This is an action in obvious poor taste by the French team. Your skier crashed and as a result should have had their elimination stand.
• Langely got lucky and was able to come from behind the pack to qualify for the finals. Her 14 second lead had nothing to do with her clothing.
Dirty play by the French Team. The X Games is one of the raddest, freest action sports events. Leave the rules and regulations for lame events like the Olympics and other ISF sanctioned events. The French teamed poor sportsmanship should not be allowed in the X Games comp. I would say ban the French team from future x games but would also rather see other teams just beet them again.
I sure hope that the officials of this race get their heads out of their asses and look at the big picture. They should have said something at the start. The finish line is no place to be making DQ calls in regards to clothing.
So in conclusion I give a big thumbs down to the officials running this race. All calls in regards to clothing should be made prior to competeors entering the starting gates.
A further huge double thumbs down to the French team for being sour losers. Your athletes lost. That result should have stood and they and their coaches should learn how to be graceful losers.

After such a moving tribute to Sarah it seems a very poor decision on behalf of the organizers to take such action. Sarah worked so hard to get women included in the X-Games it hurts to see one disqualified from competition for paying tribute to her.

Hey, yes that totally sucks Langley got DQ’d but it wasn’t on account of wearing an armband that supports the amazing life of Sarah Burke. It was because Langley also had ski straps fastened around her pant leg, which was totally not intentional. I love Langley and was super stoked to see her in the finals and I hate that she got DQ’d. But it is a rule that ski straps around pant legs are not allowed. Xgames would never disqualify anyone for supporting such a memorable, lovable, and totally amazing woman!!!!! Just so you know…

i dont think the ski straps made the difference in time. the french team knew the rules and exploited them so they could have a shot at the podium. Its still a very salty action to take….very greasy. hahaha and they still lost.
