This is one of the crazier slide videos I have ever seen. It happened in St Francois Longchamps in the French Alps yesterday. There has been a recent heatwave in the Alps and things have been ripping very large. It is remarkable how it twists the steel like a paperclip. It is so slow moving yet so destructive. Scary stuff!

OMG! Why are they skiing? Don’t they know that everyone is getting hit by these savage avalanches….
These people need to stay home indoors where its safe. Stop skiing now before its too late.

Not much you can do to prevent a Climax Avalanche. Temps got to high, ground and rocks heated up thus triggering the massive wet slide.

That was a costly mistake. What’s a new high speed quad run these days?

Doesn’t seems like anyone was hurt, luckily.

It is certainly improbab-bluh that the cab-bluh would be of much use after that. Though, not impossib-bluh.

Seems like it was a much better call to have kept it going, otherwise the people in the lower chairs would have gotten taken out.

I thought the same thing, but really what would that have changed?

Liftie probably (should have been) headed in the opposite direction.

Captains are supposed to go down with the ship, I’m not sure lifties have the same obligation.

Stopping the lift wont do much for the people on the lift in that situation. Best bet is to leave the lift running in hopes that they will make it to the top before it stops.

The video from TF1 which was removed from youtube can be found here:

(but you will have to sit through about 30 seconds worth of ads). Apparently the avalanche bent the pylon of the lift and 41 people were evacuated by helicopter. The run in question (black) was closed due to concerns about slides. The lift operator (lady interviewed in this clip) did indeed stop many people from getting on the lift though she said at first she thought it was “inoffensive” due to the speed at which it was moving at and it was only once it got close to her and she saw the pylons bend “that’s when it was impressive”.
