Waterville Valley ski resort in New Hampshire just became the official ski resort of the Boston Red Sox. The first thing we could think of was:
“Good freakin’ luck getting any Yankee fans to ski there.”
The baseball attitudes of the Northeast are vicious, have a grueling history, and truly leave ya wondering if this was a good idea on Waterville’s part?
New York is the largest media market in North America. Waterville is basically looking the millions of Yankee Fans in the eye and hocking a loogie onto their chest.
Is Waterville gonna rename their lifts after Sox players, charge Yankee fans more for hot dogs, sell Red Sox beanies in vending machines, and dye their beer red?
The terms of the deal include Waterville Valley lift ticket give-aways, exposure on the centerfield scoreboard and in the EMC level suites, presence in the Fenway Park concourse, and sampling opportunities for deals on lift tickets, activities, and other promotions to fans at the park, according to Tom Gross, Jr., President –Valley Operations, who adds, “we’ve only just begun to think of the special packages we’ll offer Sox fans up here in the White Mountain National Forest all year-long.” - Waterville Valley
Apparently, this is looked upon as a good idea by management:
“The Boston Red Sox and Waterville Valley Resort share much of the same market. We are in the business of providing an exciting and fun opportunity for New England families to spend time together. It is a perfect partnership.” - Chris Sununu, CEO of Waterville Valley Resor
Don’t forget Waterville, a lotta Yankee fans come up to ski in the White Mountains and these people won’t forget a polarizing move like this…
1. Curse of the Bambino
Before Ruth left Boston, the Red Sox had won five of the first fifteen World Series, with Ruth pitching for the 1916 and 1918 championship teams (he was with the Sox for the 1915 World Series but the manager used him only once, as a pinch-hitter, and he did not pitch). The Yankees had not played in any World Series up to that time. In the 84 years after the sale, the Yankees played in 39 World Series, winning 26 of them, twice as many as any other team in Major League Baseball. Meanwhile, over the same time span, the Red Sox played in only four World Series and lost each in seven games. [wikipedia.org]

YANKEES SUCK!
It’s jeter, not jetter d-bag.
Maybe it’s because I am not a baseball fan but I don’t get this. How will this negativity effect yankee fans? It seems like most people will go there for skiing, not baseball.
great, bring more massholes to NH to ruin our mountains
better than yawkers
Dont forget the ass kicking we gave them this year during there 100 year
celebration
Perfect fit.. This masshole says that the red sox suck and so does Waterville. They belong together!
1) as a yankees fan I would never consider ever skiing there again
2) sounds like it will be easy to get a promo lift ticket. sell that shit on ebay. Effin love free money. Thanks smucks
Waterville does not have a huge NY market. Waterville is not like you guys in Vermont. They get people from around Boston and New Hampshire. Obviously there are some exceptions but there is not even close to as much NY presence at Waterville than there is at any VT resort. Also, I do agree that true Sox and Yanks fans are without doubt possibly the most diehard sports fans in the country but their love for baseball would have little to no effect on where they choose to ski. You are over exaggerating the effect this will have on Waterville.
Way to write about something you obviously know little about, NY is not a major market for WV. Sure, there are Yankee fans around here (NH) but not enough to sway numbers. This can only be a help for them to get people from the Boston market to visit them instead of the better options in NH and Maine. Better options including Cannon and Loon which are both “right down the street,” and both better places to spend a day skiing/riding. Hell I’d probably even rather go to Bretton Woods than WV. Moral of the story is WV sucks and this can only help this decrepit ski area.
they should try and pick up the orioles too.
Let the Massholes have it. Waterville is a full blown beginners hill. Place sucks.
Waterville sucks anyway. Now I have yet another reason to never go there again. Enjoy last place, Red Sux!
HAHA u live in VT so its understandable why your so dumb/upset with life. I wouldnt set foot in that stupid state if you handed me $10,000.
I live in Boston, jerk off.
Who gives a hoot. Main difference between Yankee and Red Sox fans is that yes, I hate the red sox, but I’m more concerned with where the Yankees are in relation to the other teams in baseball. Red Sox fans spend more time wrapped up in what the Yankees are doing than being concerned with their own team.
You know what we used to do to Aaron Boone when he was in Cincinnati?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOONNE, BOOOOOOOOONNE, BOOOOOOOONE.
Fuck that guy.
