Welcome-to-Colorado-Marijuana-Green-Rush-750x471

Christine Arakelian, of New York, has made public this open letter to Vail Resorts expressing her dislike of Colorado’s new recreational marijuana laws. Here is the full letter as posted in vaildaily.com.

Dear Vail Resorts,

Let me explain to you why I will not be returning to this resort anytime in the near future and will indicate to other families on online forums that they should decline to come to Vail as well.

As you are aware, marijuana is now legal in Colorado. I have been visiting Vail and Beaver Creek for many years now with my family, and enjoyed all my years here with no real problems. We have a lot of memories here. Within the span of several days, my son and I were exposed to numerous conversations on buses, gondola rides and restaurants related to recreational drug use. The fact that people are restricted to smoking pot in the privacy of their room doesn’t mean that they won’t reek of pot on gondola rides, or that they won’t be talking about getting high with numerous other substances within earshot of numerous families. Within the span of two to three days, I had at least three to four separate occasions in public areas where I had to specifically ask people to not talk about their drug use. People were obviously put off by my asking them to stop, and I was furious to even be put in this situation.

I think the public debate on allowing pot to be sold is completely off. The people who live this type of lifestyle can’t afford to support resorts like Vail that frankly cater to a demographic more like my own, and candidly, you don’t get to be successful by engaging in this type of lifestyle. Why am I going to pay to come to a resort where my son is exposed to these sorts of things? I don’t want him skiing or going anywhere on his own — he is a teenager, and why should he be shaped by these types of conversations?

Not only this, but it’s a safety hazard. Do you think I want people speeding by me on the slopes who were high the evening before?

I really recommend you get this situation under control as quickly as possible because word will get out to families very quickly. At this point, I’m very much inclined to go to Utah for my vacations instead of Colorado. You can’t be a destination resort for high-earners and a pot-town at the same time — you have to choose.

Christine Arakelian

New York

Safety first everybody. This guy sounds like he would like the politics of Utah better anyways. Vail isn’t losing much over this. They certainly don’t do more to cater to his people of his demographic status. The resort is a business and which will take money from whomever is willing to give it. It’s the people, like us, with a genuine love for the snow that keeps resorts such as these in business. We may not have all the money in the world but we will do what it takes to enjoy the snow in whatever manner we please.

You don’t want to be exposed to drug culture? well you live in one, and you might as well allow your son to distinguish what is harmful/ not harmful in the context of drugs. People zooming down the hill stoned are far better than hammered uncles on family vacation who already struggle with skiing. Ever notice the people smoking cigs and drinking on hill? Ever notice the multiple bars on ski resorts? At least the marijuana culture isn’t broadcasting its legality by allowing for purchase on hill etc. As a twenty year old male who smokes weed, I hate hearing the bitch from parents who have a pre conceived notion of what the drug culture is in while they throw down beers in between runs with their kids. I am in no way against these people who do this, but at some point you need to take an informed and realistic look at the marijuana issue when we are already surrounded by the influence of far more dangerous drugs like alc and tobacco. Again, I have used all of these drugs at points in my life, but when I see something I dont like, I try to change my ways or perception instead of throwing a fit and calling for a revolution. Other than that, I hope you manage to pull the fat poll out of your ass so that your son can gain his own knowledge on the subject before his cunt, I mean mom, can implant hypocrisy into his mind. ps, tell your son to hit me up to smoke a fat doobie man.

I actually voted to legalize marijuana in Colorado. I’m sorry it is causing some distress to anyone. However, in response to Christine’s concerns, I will say that I hear adults laughing about being hungover from alcohol all the time. Teenagers in America seem to be expected to drink carelessly and while I do believe that smoking marijuana every day all day is excessive, I have yet to hear of someone high beating anyone up, starting a fight or being so physically addicted that they cannot stop when they choose, unlike with alcohol. Marijuana is also having some success at healing cancer, unlike alcohol. and does provide pain relief for many – kinda like alcohol but different because the amount of alcohol required to do the job renders a person totally incapable of functioning safely. So my point is stop dissing marijuana unless you are going to diss alcohol too! BTW I don’t do either.

      Reply
      • I don’t drink alcohol very much, either, maybe half a beer literally every two years or so, and I have never smoked pot and never plan to… however that brings up another issue. Some regions where pot was decriminalized or was never criminalized, DUIs decreased as pot smoking numbers increased.

“You don’t get to be successful by engaging in this type of lifestyle.” Are you kidding me? Were Walt Disney, William Shakespeare, George Washington, Christopher Columbus successful? Are Bill Gates, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp successful? Do some research. And you’re claiming Vail is for rich people like you? I’m 19 years old and a college student living on my own working at the resort as well as Copper Mountain, and work 60 hours a week so that I can ski at such great resorts. And yes, I do enjoy smoking, it relaxes me and gives me a different perspective on life. It’s people like who are so close-minded about issues like marijuana that are ruining our country. If you don’t like it move to Canada (Blackcomb might have even more rich people like you). Oh wait! They smoke weed up there too, yeah you’re screwed man.

You seem as if you could benefit from marijuana. Smoking is not the only form, possibly a vaporizer or in food would be a better way for you to indulge.there has got to be something to it if our government is keeping it away .it its good for you the government keeps it away if its bad for you the government feeds it to you.

I think it is wonderful that a dialog has been opened up between you and your teenage son-now you can influence him for the better and let him know what it takes (by your standards) to be successful! I am happy it has been legalized in our great state-now i won’t have to pay for the goverment to house all the smokers that have been put in jail! I grew up with violent alcoholics and if i have to pick i will go with the smokers of POT any day of the week! God bless us one and all!

If she really wants a weed free vacation, a place where her son wont have access to or hear about drug use, I have a recommendation:
Turn off your cable and internet, cover your windows, lock him in his room and STAY THE FUCK HOME.

She is saying this i so many words. “All people that do drugs are worthless, and poor; and all poor people are worthless and do drugs. They cant support your resort, and I dont want my kid around poor people. You should not let them in or me and my 6 rich friends wont come anymore. We dont want those crack head pot users in the way of us getting drunk and skiing safely.” this woman was so ignorant that i half expected her to complain about seeing too many black people there, or the jews at the front desk, or something along those racist lines.

She does not even realize that no matter where she skis that the lift operator probably toked up that morning, and he half the “good people” she met were only patient with her dumb ass because they were stoned. Not all rich people are good, and/ or sober. there is not enough rich people to support all resorts. poor people and middle class people ski too. Ski bums contribute more than them. the last point was some of the people she finds worthless for involving them selves with pot have made a decent living with that very thing while at the same time actually helping people with cancer, and a huge list of other diseases. What does she do other than bitch and moan on facebook that pot heads ruined her life. She should go vacation to detroit or chicago or cleavland. and get a dose of fucking reality. Better yet send that woman to Somalia for a few years then see if she is worried about pot heads when she gets back to good old colorado.

No one who has ever done drugs will ever be successful? Without know much more about you, I know your children have a trust fund, will go to a prestigious college and engage in many sinful activities. The more they’ve been sheltered, the more illegal and immoral activities they will engage in. Then may even use trust fund money to be a six figure ski bum in a town like Vail, excited by the possibility of using these drugs that their father has been publicly fighting since they were 10.

Finally, you can’t be a destination resort for high-earners without your pot-town people working ever possible service position.

With a new president will inevitably come a lawsuit against the state to cease and desist.

Saying a President will overturn Colorado’s law is the same as saying Bush lost because of voting machines in Florida. Fact of the matter is if you are going to ski on Colorado whether you smoke pot or not, you’d best be prepared to suck it up and deal with the fact that you’re gonna hear about weed, smell it, or even see it. If you can’t handle it then I don’t know what to tell you because legality or illegality isn’t going to change much of anything in that department.

Of all the stoners I know they are much nicer and down to earth than those I know who are ‘high earners’ because they don’t need to feel entitled. On the other hand she couldn’t give a fuck about all those who are out riding after a few beers at lunch or god forbid a REAL hangover from the night before which is much more judgement affecting. If you’ve never tried pot, don’t be so quick to judge. Ski together, be happy. On that note.. This useless stoner is off to Val Gardena, Italy to ski for 2 weeks with all the magical failure money I made by smoking pot.

At this point, I’m very much inclined to go to Utah for my vacations instead of Colorado. You can’t be a destination resort for high-earners and a pot-town at the same time — you have to choose.”

I am going to address this sentence by sentence.
    1. high the night before? Lady I just smoke next to you on the lift. I’m high now and I ski better than you and your whole dumb family. Furthermore they have served alcohol since their opening day. You ski next to drunk people. do you realize how dangerous that is?
    2. Other families live in reality. they dont care. They are not scared to explain to their kids about reality.
    3. All high end resorts everywhere cater to people wanting to get drunk, high, and/ or and sexed up. It is called vacation. Just because you are not there to have that kind of fun dont assume others are not. Most people enjoy inebriation.

however, i believe that you may somehow be in the industry in one way or another. unfortunately, airheads work in almost EVERY industry! the seems apparent that our culture quietly supports bigots and such, with insatiable desires for onlookers of any kind.

sorry, i rant sometimes when im stoned. regardless, its really not a cool thing to do to brag about how much money you make, and how much better you are than someone else for that fact alone. isnt that what message this site is trying to send by posting this letter? its not about demographics; its not politics; its not about prohibition. this letter is here to separate those who enjoy the sport for what it does for them and who give all they can back into it, from those who enjoy the sport for all they can get from it and give as little back to it as they can.

Our founding fathers grew weed and it is a fact that alcohol cigarettes and coffee are all more addictive then pot! “Man I drank so much coffee last night” I say to my friend on the bus, is basically how stupid her argument sounds. We don’t want people like her in co anyways, she probably brings her road rage from NY roads to our slopes like everyone else from NY. Have fun in Utah sounds like a perfect place for her, especially since she can bring her kids to a restaurant and not have to expose them to bottles of booze sitting behind a bar because they have the curtain of Zion hiding the booze because we all know if kids see bottles of booze behind a bar they will deffinately turn into alcoholics.

Christine should realize that her conservative family mindset might simply not be the standard as many other “succesfull snow-loving families” can actually deal with/ accept real-world situations during their holidays.

In Europe for example, I’ve come to accept that visiting any big upscale skiresort nowadays comes with gogo dancers in broad daylight and topless table-dance bars and mountains of powder face shots (different kind) at night. Because that is how many many (very) succesfull and wealthy people party, Christine. Can you imagine what a group of London bankers smell like or talk about in the lift the morning after?

If you want to “protect” your kids from terrible things such as non addictive soft-drugs, take them to a smaller family aimed resort without bars, clubs, good terrain or other things that generally attract a slightly broader audience.

It’s not because it hasn’t been happening for every past visit she’s ever had at Vail, it’s because now she is AwARE that CO loves some good old MMJ and no one really has an issue with it. My advice to this news addicted New York conservative helicopter mother is to BE rEAl with herself. This is Colorado, were a little progressive. You are in a ski town that throws free mimosa concerts in a parking lot. People party here. I always find the comments here on Unofficial entertaining. I think the root of the issue for Christine is that the demographics of Vail have changed, marijuana or not. All resorts take on their own feel, and folks will tend to ski where they feel most comfortable. I think the issue at some mountains today is the selfishness of the guests, thinking only of themselves and not being courteous of how their actions affect those around them. I made a resort change a few years ago because I was tired of the selfish behavior of too many of the guests at my home mountain. Now, I ski at what would be considered a “family” mountain, not because I have a family or I no longer enjoyed the terrain at my previous mountain. Rather, people tend to have better manners in such environments, and this is the environment in which I prefer to ski. Self-indulgence is rampant through many resort environments… smokey gondolas, graffiti, trash, and general rudeness… all not in consideration of others who share the mountain with them. There is no doubt that marijuana smoking is prevalent where I ski too; however, I don’t have to smell it, see it, or hear people talk about it. Just down the road at another resort, you would think such activities were legal.

Thus, my suggestion to Christine… pick a new mountain for ski holidays. With so many destination resorts in Colorado, perhaps Vail has become a place for selfish skiers and riders. I promise you that there are other mountains, even within the vail resorts community that will provide you and your family the resort environment you desire, legal marijauna or not. I have found the following resorts to have a more courteous vibe than most: Breckenridge, Steamboat, Grand Targhee, Deer Valley, Taos, Northstar, Okemo, Smuggler’s Notch, and Ski Portillo.

And to many commenters above… you’re selfish! Next time you decide to light up in the gondola, drink to excess on the hill, use loud and profane language in public, “borrow” equipment without asking, jump catwalks on groomed terrain, or pass someone uphill on a traverse… think twice about how your selfish actions affect those around you.

I can jump catwalks in a safe manner, its not selfish. either is passing someone on catwalks: are you kidding me? I’m suppose to scrub my speed on flats just so I don’t pass anyone? Those people are being selfish for gaping up the whole cattrack.

Pass uphill on a traverse? If I can do that, you’re a slow dumb gaper who can’t keep his skis waxed and fast. Blocking a traverse in any way is selfish, not trying to get by some tourist gaper and ski something. In fact, I think I’ll start bumping people off the traverse hard enough to f”ing knock their butt down. People skiing runs beyond their ability to try to prove something are selfish. Secondly, Vail has opted out of allowing any sales of weed. Third, Vail is federal reserve land, thus weed is not allowed to be smoked even with the new law taking place. Lastly, this law changes nothing. It will still attract an affluent demographic and those who are coming to CO for a weed vacation will probably go to Boulder or stay in Denver. Go back to NY and stay there. We don’t want you or your opinions about pot or guns. Why do New Yorkers feel the need to change everyone else’s way of life in order to suite theirs? The beautiful thing about this country is that everyone has a place they can be loved and accepted. Yours is obviously in NY, so please, leave us alone in CO because nobody here will miss you. in fact, tell everyone you know not to come ski or visit Colorado.

An Open Letter to Christine Arakelian, New York,

    Dearest Christine,
You do realize that the only reason you can vacation in Vail is because your broker husband rails enough blow to pull 18 hour days on wall street. Chances are, you yourself have a chemical dependency on either xanax or muscle relaxers so that you can deal with your husband’s weekly infidelity and keep using his credit cards instead of divorcing and living a miserable existence as a single mom in Hoboken.
You do also realize that your son is exposed to way better drugs than marijuana during his unsupervised semesters at boarding school because you’re too busy drowning out your sorry excuse for a life in a bottle of ’82 pomerol at some trendy lunch spot in tribeca to be a real parent and teach him right from wrong.
Long story short, you’re a hypocrite.

    Cheers,

    Society.

SO if she just realised that in Colorado, alot of skiers smoke weed, she’s in for a big reality check everywhere she goes skiing!

and her kid will probably be introduce to coke before he turns 18… then she’ll realise weed ain’t so bad after all.

I tend to agree with this. Smoke dope in your car or before you go out on the slopes… or if you’re going to, go in the trees or smoke shacks away from everyone. There are a lot of dicks out there smoking bowls in the lift lines or on the lifts which gives us weed smokers a bad rap. Smoke if you want, but don’t expose everyone else to it just because you’re oblivious to the people around you who might be sensitive to it.

Remember, New York state is a net taker (welfare) of Federal funding, and relies on wealthier states such as California, a net donor to the Federal Treasury re tax money being returned to the state, to keep afloat. As such, NY’s primary growth industry, besides Wall Street Bankers ripping everybody off, is criminalizing various other cultural segments of American society, whether or not they are harmful, to provide work for lawyers. Since she missed the tally on what legal Rx drugs are really killing the most people, perhaps she can support the current, unconstitutional DA forfeiture system further,by turning ‘her precious’ into the Feds and the for – profit Prison Industrial Complex. Or at least a Boot Camp. Then she could afford an even fancier vacation.

After all, what’s a little sacrifice to keep up with Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous ?

“Within the span of two to three days, I had at least three to four separate occasions in public areas where I had to specifically ask people to not talk about their drug use. People were obviously put off by my asking them to stop, and I was furious to even be put in this situation.”

1.) I don’t want to live in a world where I have to put up with other people who think they can regulate the discussions of others around them. You are a lawyer, you should understand the value of free speech. The people you are asking to stop should tell you to stop. If you can’t handle the real world and the things people discuss in it, then go back to your hovel. Also, teaching your child the value of thinking critically, and exposing him to the real choices he will face as an adult, is of vital importance. Sheltering him won’t do him any good when he finally does start hearing those conversations and you aren’t around to police them. Also, do you think Vail Resorts has any real ability to police every conversation on the mountain? Seriously?

“Not only this, but it’s a safety hazard. Do you think I want people speeding by me on the slopes who were high the evening before?”

2.) You likely know nothing about the consumption of cannabis, but I’ll tell you this: it doesn’t affect you the next day. In fact, you are scared of people who smoked the day before but make no mention of the people who are drinking at the lodge and then buckling into their skis? That law degree didn’t teach you much science, huh.

“The people who live this type of lifestyle can’t afford to support resorts like Vail that frankly cater to a demographic more like my own, and candidly, you don’t get to be successful by engaging in this type of lifestyle. ”

3.) Oh, right, and your ridiculous, nose in the air attitude is disgusting. I too make a lot of money, and I frequent Vail, and I choose to, in my time, smoke marijuana. What about it? You think you are better than me and deserve your own private space? Go buy a mountain. Oh, wait, you aren’t really wealthy… You just think you are.

Glad to hear you won’t be coming back to Vail, you don’t deserve it’s awesome beauty.

This is rather silly, I used to live in the Vail area for 18 years. In that time I have plenty of days skiing both Vail and Beaver Creek. In all that time weed has always been on the mountains with people smoking in the gondola, on chair lifts, in the huts around the mountain, or just on the side of the trails.

Vail Resorts has nothing to do with the new laws in the State of Colorado, this was the voters, honestly I would rather the weed to be sold through legal means where the tax revenue from the sales can benefit the state.

Recently I moved out to California, and I now ski at a California Resort just about every day. I smell just as much pot out here, maybe more as I did in Colorado. Here in California weed is not legal without a Rx, but that does not stop anyone. This is just a fact of ski areas, people will be smoking pot. I have friends in Utah, and pot is available there too.

This woman should just wake up and understand the realities of our society, in the past few years there has been a change of feeling of the people of this country; more people are in favor of legalizing marijuana than keeping it illegal.

I also would like to point out that I no longer smoke marijuana, but this does not change my feelings that it should be legal and taxed.

She is the type of person, that ALL locals (and most other humans) despise. The ones that complain about being “too cold” when it’s 40 degrees out and everyone else is wearing hoodies, or about the lift lines being too long when there are 6 people in front of her, or having some random person sit with them on the lift (even if it’s just them on the stinkin’ lift because no one wants to ride with them)! << I've experienced that one… at Beaver Creek, wasn't such a pretty experience.

I think quite a few people can vouch that many of the more experienced skiers on the mountain are smokers and are very accustomed to how to ski that way. maybe not high that second, maybe they are. god forbid someone smokes to help them fall asleep. I’m not supporting that decision or condoning it, it’s just something anyone who skis more than 15 days a year might notice. And on that note, they’re shredding much harder terrain than anything this ignorant woman could ever set skis on.

Not just left over from the night before, but stoned from smoking on the previous lift ride. Skiers smoke weed, from recreational skiers to top level professionals. Your teenager will also smoke weed, if he/she does not already. Simple truth.

    Christine-

I work at a fortune 50 financial company in downtown Denver, and your baseline assumption that people in “your demographic” don’t use marijuana is priceless. On the contrary, my dear, I would say from my involvement in the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce probably more than half of the successful entrepreneurs that I know, let alone most of the successful financial strategists that I work with use marijuana.

You see, Colorado has wonderful conditions for brewing beer and growing marijuana, and part of making it here means being able to partake in such pastimes. We in Colorado believe in a mantra of “work hard, play hard.” That mentality contributes to our being one of the fittest states in the nation. We value being able to exercise in our beautiful mountains, on our bike trails, in our open spaces, etc., and those of us that have generated disposable income often reinsert it into our local economy by way of partaking in some locally grown herb to compliment our recreation, which is nurtured by the same 300 days of sunlight a year that invigorates us as Coloradoans.

I’m not sure exactly what it is you expect Vail to do about the use of marijuana in their town specifically, since we amended our state constitution to allow marijuana to be legal. Vail can restrict the sale of marijuana in their town, but they cannot supersede state law and ban its use outright. That power lies with the voters, and we have spoken.

If your attitude is such that you find our way of life unacceptable, please, by all means, feel free to go fuck yourself. And understand that for every self-righteous, ignorant jackass that avoids Colorado because of its marijuana laws, three other wealthy out-of-state couples are already booking their penthouse suite in Vail for next year for precisely the same reason.

God willing, may you never return.

    Dear Christine,

I really hope this comment makes it across your eyes…

“In spite of the passage of Amendment 64 last fall, public consumption of marijuana continues to be illegal under Colorado law. In addition, marijuana continues to be illegal under federal law. Our four Colorado ski resorts – Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone – are on U.S. Forest Service land. Possession and consumption of marijuana on USFS land is illegal under federal law.

Vail Resorts has a zero tolerance policy towards skiing or riding under the influence and does not permit the consumption of marijuana in or on any of its lifts, facilities or premises under its control. We are communicating with our guests and the community verbally, through signage, our websites and through social media. Employees have been provided with cards to hand out to guests and to assist in explaining that marijuana use is in fact still illegal on our resorts. We are also working with local law enforcement and the U.S. Forest Service to enforce the law and will pull passes from those who are not complying with the law.

In addition, there is “no smoking” of any kind (tobacco, marijuana or e-cigarettes) permitted in any of our owned and operated facilities, including restaurants, lodges and hotels, and we will continue to enforce that policy.”

This is an official statement, and if you have further questions I encourage you to contact our company directly.

    Thank you.

I don’t’ want to hear anyone talk about their passion for guns either but would never be rude enough to ask someone to stop because I am offended by the premise.
Ski elsewhere – we will not miss you & as the saying goes….more snow for us!! sincerely, a mid 50′s non smoking mother & grandmother.

I can’t tell which offends me more – her level of pretentiousness or her tragically offensive writing skills. Seriously, if she wanted to make a point, Christine should have spent more than five minutes composing this poorly worded piece of slob.

For being such a “high income earner,” you think she’d be able to compose a letter without sounding like she has the competence of a high school student. Maybe she should stop spending all of her money on ski retreats and start putting it towards a university education.

Does this rightard consider downing a beer “drug use?” Bet ya no, he does not. Another typically ignorant right wing Christofascist Republican extremist living in a fantasy theocracy where “Jesus wouldn’t do that!” running through his Sarah Palin brain.

    No offense.

  234. If you Google the woman’s name you get some background and an explanation of her opinion here however if I may open my yip and make an observation…

The decriminalization of small amounts of dope in Colorado will almost certainly not result in an increase of DUI arrests since we’re looking at a customer base that is already extant, and there is no way to calculate what pot tourism dollars and counts will be like, however there is one particular benefit to decriminalization that interests me the most.

We currently have illegal pot cultivations taking place in our nation’s National Forests and National Parks, and often the fertilizers and pesticides that gets used are banned here in the United States. Setting aside the Mexican nationals drug cartels that engage in much of the cultivation, eliminating the use of toxic materials for cultivation in our forests is, for me, the major benefit here.

People who stumble across cultivations are at risk of being murdered yet cultivations pose a wider risk to more people in that the sites are often toxic enough that scraping up the top soil and disposing of many thousands of pounds of contaminated soil much be done, and you can imagine the expense of doing so.

Not cleaning up everything means that the substances percolate in to the watershed, and there are complex organics being utilized which are difficult and costly to neutralize or eliminate when the watershed is contaminated and our drinking water must be processed.

The woman who skies complaining here probably never had to risk hiking overland and walking in to a grow, so she is unable to weigh the risks involved in the continued lunacy of criminality which motivates criminals to grow pot in places she will never visit. Her risk assessments are way off; she considers pot to be a dangerous drug and yet the science says otherwise, all while science points to illegal cultivations and the “war on drugs” as being far more of a threat to society than pot smoking ever could be.

My opinions, of course, and only mine.

While it is fine to have an opinion, I do hope she understands what she is implying. Not going to an area where her son could be influenced by something that is most assuredly in his high school is daffy. Pot is everywhere, whether parents want to realize it or not, and the fact that she is hiding her son from it is doing a disservice to her son and family.

We as Coloradians have made a conscious decision to take some power away from the illegal drug peddlers. It is perfectly fine not to enjoy what we do, because I am certain I am not a fan of the stick up your bum policy New York must have for the Elite of high money earners.

Also, to the writer of this letter, I have something that must be told. Colorado is the second state to completely decriminalize this all natural plant with healing properties. I am certain you enjoy a glass of fine wine from somewhere exotic at parties. You know what happened in the early 1900′s? Prohibition. That was when we saw alcohol, all of it, illegal and we still found ways to enjoy it. It was criminal to stop the consumption of it and we realized that.

The only reason weed was deemed illegal was because of the hemp it produces, and your elites of the time had so much invested in the timber dollars that they made everything about hemp illegal. Now we are posed with the same situation, given the medical benefits this plant gives with little to no negative side effects. Money that elites have are invested in pharmaceuticals and do not want a cheap plant to hit the market.

You have to deal with change and progression. Eventually, it will be legal nationwide, and you will have to move to escape it out of country. A lot of the places an elite like yourself may want to move, I assure you, already have it there and it is by far more known than here. Accept this fact and educate your son about it, and he will make a decision based on your family and his own mind whether to try it.

First, I am a cannabis supporter. Of course it is my opinion that this woman’s opinion single-minded , arrogant, and ignorant. She successfully created a fuss, my friends, but the aggravated attention to her silliness is only suiting her purpose and proving her point.

I wish that many of the folks commenting on behalf on “my side” would comment with class and instead of resorting to name calling in order to communicate that they disagree with her. A reader that is changeable or undecided on the matter may decide that the cannabis community is full of uneducated and thoughtless individuals. I find it difficult to defend my community’s position when my community *also* behaves with the same level of ignorance. Bigotry is ugly no matter who wears it.

Please, friends, fight her ignorance with truth (fact) and diplomatic expression of your opinions. Please acknowledge and understand the difference. And please, for the love of (insert chosen deity here) have the self respect to choose kindness in vocabulary that I may proudly refer to you as “on my side”. Swear all you want (I admit have a gutter mouth), but save the animosity and name calling for when you stub your almost frozen toe or lost your backup lighter.

See you in Tahoe, my friends.

Wow. Ignorant & naive, & probably a hypocrite. Not a complaint about the bars everywhere but shit will hit the fan if her son hears of cannabis.

It’s 2014, grow up. Booze, tobacco, coffee, gambling are great but cannabis is just so evil?

These people are the best, on the righteous & better path until her son get the police escort home at 4am. You’re blind. Ski in NY is the moral of the story.

DId she proof read that? She plainly says the pot smokers cannot afford to go and support the resort…..then the very next sentence she says that she ran into people who smoke it….on there resort….I hope the resort sent her a letter in turn. There are some pretty rich potheads out there….I would say the whole web for the most part is run by potheads. Let us not forget tv either. Most of the best shows are created and ran by potheads. Clearly clueless of her surroundings.

If I were her son and had to put up with her all the time, I would probably be addicted to meth or heroin. It’s people like this whose kids grow up on 20 different medications (those are all fine even though the side effects list is longer than the commercial). They find themselves screwed up bc they have no clue what the real world is like. I’ve lived in Vail for over 5 years and never once have I seen an assault or robbery or domestic violence case or public disturbance, etc. due to marijuana use, however these drunk out of towners are always are fighting in the bars or breaking stuff bc they can’t handle the elevation. Stick to mid-vail and you won’t encounter this drug culture you speak of, gaper. Lastly, I don’t think that smoking marijuana yesterday affects you as bad as alcohol does the next day; never been hung over and puking because I smoked the day before, I’m lost on her argument there.

Especially between people who are NOT in families, a.k.a. young people. I understand her concern but honestly lady have some common sense. I can already tell you that this little vacation is not the first time her teenage son has been exposed to discussion of pot.

“Recreational drug use” is the entire point of ski apres, and if you consider the obvious fact that alcohol is a much more dangerous drug than cannabis, you just look like a total moron complaining about other peoples’ recreational activities. At least Utah caters to the successful clientele that hold such enlightened beliefs such as abstaining from recreational drug use and insisting that the Earth is 5,000 years old. Colorado is so much better off without these kinds of people.

If this woman had been going to Vail/Beaver Creek all these years, then she’d know that lots of people smoking and smelling of weed is not something even remotely new to our Ski Resorts. Nor is it new to the CO ski/snowboard culture in general. A vast majority of marijuana users are competent, conscientious, responsible adults. And the people who aren’t, were already smoking anyway!
