IMPORTANT NOTICE AND DISCLAIMER: The content of this Report Card is educational and informational in nature and is not intended as minimum standards, recommendations or other legal or professional advice. This Report Card does not approve, disapprove, certify, recommend or endorse mountain resort facilities.
The Report Card is based on the best available public information, including resort responses to requests for information, resort websites and the SnowSport Safety Foundation’s (Foundation) California Mountain Resort Safety Report (Report) (www.snowsportsafetyfoundation.org/research) designed and supervised by a snow sport safety expert. That Report was based on observations of a limited set of safety practices made on a single random day in 2010. It may not reflect current individual or collective resort safety practices. The Report Card grading of the elements of Categories I, II, & III was directly derived from the 1-10 scoring of the same elements in the Report. When consulted, the Report’s expert author indicated the boundary safeguard observations were not complete enough to score or grade. He deemed the documented observations reported on the elements of Terrain Parks Design and Engineering, Category IV, reasonably accurate and complete.
The Report Card grading of that Category represents the equally weighted estimated scores derived from the observable practices. In 2011, copies of the Report were sent to all the resorts, and the Report has been continuously available on the Foundation’s website. To date, the Foundation has not received any comments or requests for corrections from any resort. The grades reported in Category V were based on resort responses, or lack thereof, to the Family Safety Survey (http://www.snowsportsafetyfoundation.org/documents/SSF-Resort-Family-Safety- Survey.pdf), sent by the Foundation to the resorts in July 2012. The Survey requested updated information on all of the safety elements and practices included in the Report, as well as some additional information on safety policies and procedures. As of the date of publication of this Report Card, the Foundation has not received any completed surveys, comments or updated information from the resorts.
The California Ski and Snowboard Safety Organization disclaims any and all warranties and/or responsibility for the information contained in this Report Card or its use in evaluating, managing, operating, constructing or using mountain resort facilities. Users of this Report Card should confer with a snow sport safety expert of their choosing or seek information/clarification directly from the resorts regarding any issues or concerns raised by the information in this Report Card. so in other words stay away from cali
In other other words, “dont be a meat wallet”
Looks like im packing up my shit and heading down the road… Granlibakken or Bust Baby!!!
hahahaha Granlibakken…. I wonder if an F is too high of a rating for Keystone…
Dick Penniman can suck it. I’m going to Baldy just to ride that fucked up old chair.
Amen, F*ck that dude.
For those who don’t know who DICK is. He is well known for being a paid expert witness against ski areas. He will help just about anyone sue any ski resort. He also teaches a really long and over priced avy class. Tool.
ask Lindsey, skiing is not safe
Ya. Stay away from @johnnyvstv..Stay away from Nor Cali. Your meat walled may become inflamed…hehe
DIE HARD or SKI TRYIN’ !!
oh wait it’s “SKI HARD or DIE TRYIN’”
Just going to say bitching about unmarked hazards like that is nothing. In the east we ski on terrain that sometimes melts down during the day leaving even rocks exposed with no marking. It is all about skiing smart.
these are the same people who want all the trees to be padded! go play chess or something and leave us alone…
No yellow jackets telling you to slow down is fine by me! suck it safety mongers!
It is easy to get an F when there is no snow…

Looks like Keystone in march
Please stay far away from ur resorts.
They Skipped Mt. Rose, Homewood, and Diamond Peak.
Homewood is there, and Diamond Peak and Mt Rose are in Nevada
Baldy baby!!
Donner Ski Ranch?
this info comes from a biased Father who tragically lost his daughter at a Tahoe resort and now wants the industry to pay for it even though the unfortunate incident occurred from the daughter skiing into a known closed boundary and striking a tree…………..CSSSO will try to change your mind by giving only one side………so sad that tragedies like this end up with lobyists trying to change every piece of minutia out there…….JMHO
NBC did a special report on this. You guys should post the video…very interesting
Not good for unofficial to post this kind of article! Who is this so called expert and what qualifications does he have to judge the resorts in 1 day of
observation in 2010? Seems very fishy to me. Is this article backed by the California Ski Industry Association? Seems very dangerous to publish this type of report.
Umm, if you are D.S.R. patrol, I would be very very quite. How long does it take to respond? That crown is still visible from far away. For everyone else, please talk shit on ol Dick P.
Not a DSR patrol. So probably ok if I am not “quite”. Good point though
Would never talk trash about SBSP, fyi.
Classic gaper rating system of our playground. Skiing & snowboarding is not safe. Stay home and knit if you are timid and fear getting hurt/ dieing!
I feel the mountains here in Tahoe do a great job. I give all of them an A! It is the gapers I give a D- to.
Baldy is awesome when open and full of snow. Whoever did that ‘report card’ can suck a fat one.
“but how safe are there” bang up job from the reporter.
they should be graded on a curve
June gets a C when it’s not even open, really
Crazy, June Mt gets a C and it’s not even open
I hate when mtns have to put the “No Jumping” signs on every catwalk. If you’re stupid enough to stop under a catwalk…well you know the rest… All mtns should have their very own gaper section. That way at least the rest of the mtn would be safe!
