Aerial footage can really make your edit stand out from the rest. Once, this was only available to the big ski and snowboard film crews that had the budget to spend thousands of dollars an hour running real helicopters, paying for patrol to be on site, covering the cost of gyro stabilized cameras, etc, etc, etc. You get the picture it adds up quick.
RC heli’s have really made aerial footage more affordable for the mid level ski and snowboard crew. While still expensive, many costs are brought down and you can actually OWN one, to bring to just about any shoot whether it’s in the park, in the backcountry or on the streets.
Still though, a good RC set up is going to cost a couple grand. So How do you bring the cost down even more???
Think outside the box and build your own using household items like this Dutch artist did. Where most people will see an ordinary cat, he saw a helicopter and spent the next couple weeks waiting for the poor animal to die in an “unfortunate” car accident so he could finish his project.
Obviously he needs a bit more practice flying it, but I’m looking forward to seeing some good aerial footage covered on kitty cam.
