It hasn’t snowed yet in Tahoe, but that’s about to change. We finally have storms coming. It’s a big wet series of storms that are gonna have high snow levels. These storms could kick-start our season…or just be a big muddy mess.
How quickly will resorts be able to get new terrain open if we do get big snow?
OVERALL WEATHER PATTERN CHANGE:
.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY... VERY HIGH CONFIDENCE IN MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE LATE IN THE WEEK TO A MILD, VERY WET PATTERN. -noaa.gov
6-8 FEET OF SNOW POSSIBLE:
“The new Euro is further South as well but doesn’t have the Friday storm as huge as the GFS. The difference between the two right now is 6-8 feet of snow above 8000 ft. along the crest vs. 4-5 feet.” - TahoeWeatherDiscussion.com
SNOW LEVELS:
WHAT MODELS SHOW TO BE THE BIGGEST STORM OF THE PERIOD COMES IN FRI AFTERNOON-FRI NIGHT. WINDS AND RAIN ARE THE BIGGEST THREATS WITH HIGH SNOW LEVELS NEAR 8000-9000 FEET AT ONSET. RAIN COULD BE VERY HEAVY... - noaa.gov
“Now, let’s look at the snow levels. The Euro looks to try and keep them around 7000 ft. until later Thursday when they fall to lake level at the end of the first storm. The GFS looks a little warmer with snow levels hovering around 7000 ft. maybe just above to start. So snow amounts with the first storm look like 1-2 feet right now above 7500 ft. for the first system.” - TahoeWeatherDiscussion.com
BOTTOM LINE:
“So as of this morning it looks like 3-6 feet are possible on the upper half of the mountains above 7500 ft. through next Saturday.” – TahoeWeatherDiscussion.com

I see rain in the forcast but thanks for the hype. I hope it gets cold and stayes cold but I am not seeing it in a real world forcast.
um the real world forecast is actually what’s predicting the snow! your weather.com forecast doesn’t know shit yet….. but it’s ok, you stay home and i’ll shred the pow
The last “real world” forecast (NOAA) that I looked at said rain dipshit. NOAA has been more on point than weather underground, weather.com or any other hack weather site I have checked out. They are thankfully saying the chances of snow are increasing and I really hope they are rite.
No need to get you panties in a bunch, I’ll see you in line behind me on the first good pow day.
I am actually still seeing little to no snow in the forecast. Rain mostly
anything in NOAA’s forcast more than 4 days out doesn’t mean shit. When a storm and pattern change like this happen the ONLY way to really know what “could” happen are to watch the models and use that with what tends to happen in this area. keep checking NOAA for the next 5 days and watch how many times they change their weather predicitions.
I’m hoping for snow too, but it could very well possibly start out with a whole bunch of rain. On the other hand, even with high snow levels… 8000+ it is better than what we have had so far. It would be nice to get a nice heavy wet snow base and then dump some nice and light on top of that during the second series.
Skierr, you do realize that the nws forecast changes because it follows how the models are trending, right?
The lack of snow is starting to get to you guys, especially you Skier Man. It’s gonna snow. Go relieve some stress on the first powder day.
I’m hoping *not* to see cars that appear to have been filled/buried by slides. Maybe it’s just me…
Farly sure that’s from an open window and not from a slide.

The snowgods will bury the lifts for a laugh at our expense
Can you make a Jackson specific post? Going up on Saturday, looks like they are in for some snow as well!
looking at the “NOAA” forecast for day to day is not as good as looking at the models and making accurate predictions based upon real data such as the weather man BA at tahoeweatherdiscussion.com. He bases his forecast upon much more factual data than some pictures on wunderground or even NOAA for that matter. He predicts snow, not rain, for certain elevations for specific reasons you are being naive by ignoring these predictions! SNOW WILL COME TO TAHOE SOON!
ahaha i bet it snows at kirkwood and rains every where else
shhhhhh dont tell
Dude BA is an amateur that basically read the dweebs report for years and then made his own
BA is a certified BA. Look no further than his name.
b.a. is solid snowcaster u gapers just love to hate and blame someone else when u lose ur ski goin thru practice chuttes .
I can’t believe you publish this HYPE after you describe your self as… “UnofficialNetworks.com is a contemporary website that covers the ski and snowboard industry with an unrelenting twist towards reality and locality. We tell the truth from a local’s point of view. We inform our users what is actually going on in their locale, not simply what’s officially reported. We echo and amplify what is being said on the chairlifts and barstools and deliver that information to our viewers via organic articles, photos, & videos.”
WHERE IS THE TRUTH IN ANY OF THIS??? You are actually believing Tahoe Weather Narcisist??? Please, you already owe me $5 double or nothing??…
i bet your a str8 gaper
You ride Kirkwood enough said
hey the giants beat the packers!!! Iwasn’t surprised!!!
6-8 feet….. I hope so….

IT IS DUMPING RIGHT NOW AT MY HOUSE IN TRUCKEE, SUCK IT BITCHES
Sounds like someone hooked up with Miguel over at Bar of America. His shizz is ok and cheaper then valley prices.
that article is from last year numbnuts.
6-8 inches of rain maybe. twd has zero credibility. subtropical moisture means a whole shitload of rain. ksl bout to find out the hard way why you dont concentrate your snow making on the lower mountain! mt. rose anyone?
TWD has nailed the snow forecast for the past several years and he is the only one that predicted this coming several weeks ago. I don’t know how you think he copies the dweebs when he posts everyday and they post once a week?????? NWS Reno forecasts for Mammoth too so in their discussion the high end of their snow level is for down there.
IT will probably rain there, cause you people are such whiny lttle kids.
Tahoe weather discussion should just stop, you suck, and over estimate everything. You are the History Channel of forecasts. Stick to NOAA, people with a clue reporting real facts, not what we want to hear.
