Austrian world cup skier, Björn Sieber, died earlier today in a tragic minibus accident. Björn was traveling with his brother when their minibus went off the road plunging 200ft near the village of Schwarzenberg in the Austrian Alps. The accident also left Sieber’s brother in serious condition with head injuries.
Sieber, 23, was a super combined specialist and a medalist at the junior world championships. He was a strong favourite at the opening World Cup round in Soelden, Austria, tomorrow. The Austrian Ski Federation released a statement saying that Sieber ‘was considered one of the greatest all-round talents in the Austrian ski team’.
