Squaw

It’s official. The Associated Press released a statement this morning.

“Squaw Valley and Alpine executives told The Associated Press about the operating agreement in advance of Tuesday’s formal announcement. The merger is expected to be made final before the start of the coming ski season.

Under the deal, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows will retain their identities but be owned and operated by a new parent company called Squaw Valley Ski Holdings LLC. Squaw Valley owner KSL Capital Partners LLC will become the majority owner of the new company, while JMA Ventures, which owns Alpine Meadows, will have an ownership stake.” Read Full report HERE > The Associated Press

Okay so I checked out the rules for us season passholders to ski/ride at Alp’s and Squawk’s. I just don’t get it…. why is it cheaper for Alpers to ski Squawk than it is for Squawkers to ski Alps?

Squawkers paid $369 for say… the bronze pass, and Alpers paid $359 for their equivalent the “Filtered Pass”. But the same rules (blackout dates and no Saturdays in Jan / Feb) apply to both types of passes.

Why should Squawkers pay more to access less terrain (remember no Homewood!) as Alpers pay to access more terrain and at less money?

Whasssup wit dat KSL????????? If you’re the Acquirer and not the Acquiree shouldn’t you take better care of us who help put you in a position to take out Alps??!

Quit yo’ bitchin’ @appleaday! (Anyone who uses the terms “Squawkers” and “Alpers” gets IMMEDIATELY categorized as a Gape in my book.) In my opinion, this whole merger was handled pretty fairly for the skiers/riders, given all the questionable operations-realted decisions KSL made last season.

This is definitely sad news for Tahoe… These Colorado A**holes are screwing up our beautiful home

Now all former alpine peeps will be lining up at KT on storm days when alpine only has roundhouse open. That happened alot last year. Maybe squaws patrollers will help em get summit chair open faster now? Without a connecting lift, people are gonna be driving back and forth all day. Are they gonna run shuttle buses?

Alpine is great for the mellow vibe and the (so far) low prices for grub. Squaw is great for the ski first attitude and the incredible lines. Don’t know about you, but I have more than one gear and more than one mood. I’m in for both! (Well, actually been skiing both for 30+ years with a sprinkling of Northstar, Sugar Bowl and Homewood to spice up the gumbo).

Unfortunately, previous squaw passholders have no way to upgrade to include kirkwood and homewood. If you already bought an alpine unfiltered pass, you now get access to alpine, squaw, kirkwood, and homewood. If you already bought a squaw pass, you now get alpine access but can’t upgrade to include the other areas included for previous alpine passholders. That makes us squaw holders a little less lucky than the unlfiltered alpine holders.
My brother went with an unfiltered alpine pass, and I went with a squaw pass. Who’s looking smarter now? It would be great if squaw got some pressure to allow early pass buyers a chance to upgrade. That would be a super pass.

This is my master plan. They will connect in near future much like Alta/Snowbird and Alpine will stay “rustic” like Alta. They will push for Olympics. Get olympics and its $$ for a ganjola from Truckee to TC with stops for Squawpine. Eliminating the shit show on hwy 89 ski weekends could be so nice

I can’t wait to go rip some lines at Alpine when I want something new from skiing at Squaw. This season will be awesome at Alpine hearing everyone whine about the “Squaw People” on their mountain skiing to fast, attitudes, etc… I remember the first day Alpine allowed snowboards was awesome, shredding and watching people duck and cover. Just an idea for this up coming season: FIRST DAY ALPINE MEADOWS IS OPEN FOR THE 2011/2012 SEASON EVERYONE GOES TO ALPINE PLAYS IN THE LARGEST GAME OF G.N.A.R. EVER… just to welcome Alpine into the Squaw family.

Because if there is one thing Squaw riders have in common it is the ability to step it up on the fun scale. If you want quiet and serenity – go to the backcountry it is a beautiful place and nobody there telling you that they are radder than you. Squaw Meadows!!
