“Per capita spend has actually been quite solid (in Dec).”  “consumer confidence spending in the mid 60%” – Andy Wirth

“The skiing customer is one of the most resilient in all of the travel sectors.” – Andy Wirth

This is wirth a listen.  Andy tells us that two-thirds of Squaw’s customers come from within 3 hours of Squaw and more ‘intersting’ info about Squaw and our rough season.

Do you think KSL has paid NBC for TV air time?  Andy has been on CNBC, NBC’s “Today Show”, and NBC’s “Nightly News” all within 3 days.  Kinda fishy, right?

KSL did just have a fundraiser where they were trying to raise $2.5 billion in capital.  They accidentally exceeded that by 1/2 a billion.  So they’ve definitely got about $3+ billion laying.

“Good luck Andy” – some guy from Vermont

Why is Andy on an investors news channel? The only reason I can think a private company CEO is on this is they see taking SquawAlpine public at some point or his investors at KSL are looking to position their investment in SquawAlpine so they can raise a bigger private fund. Either way it’ seems a poor use of Andy’s time when he has plenty of work to do.

Bill Stenger is one of the nicest and smartest people in the ski industry, KSL should hire him as a consultant. Andy seems like a nice guy and i give him credit for being quick enough to latch on to the hosts comment about how resilient the skiing customer is and make it seem like his own….indoor waterpark at Jay Peak …GENIUS i tell you,,,

For a resort that is so desperately trying to build itself into a major destination player…they sure are doing a great job of telling all the destination customers around the country just how bad the conditions are currently. Doesn’t exactly seem like the kind of press they should willingly being going after. I know for a fact several other Tahoe areas turned down these NBC interview requests. The lack of winter so far is bad enough but for Squaw to go on national news repeatedly and tell the country on prime time is just throwing our entire region under the bus. …maybe they just want the two resorts that are actually doing OK in this current climate to go down with them as well. Maybe Andy thinks there is company in misery.

Wow, you know for a fact that other Tahoe areas have declined interviews. You sound well connected ‘iheartpark’ Are you sleeping with Sean White? It is well known that there has been no snow here in December and I think Andy did a good job with letting people know that despite that, the conditions are still good and visitors are enjoying themselves. If we have air time now, we will get a whole lot more once it dumps. But of course then we’ll be complaining about too many people being here. Feast or famine!

I watched the clip and thought it was well done and that Andy did a good job as did the guy from Jay Peak. A story like that can only help, not hurt Squaw Valley. Too many on this site speak without knowledge, thought, or research of any type. Like the G.N.A.R. burger post at Rocker@Squaw. That burger and other promotions are backed and done with the knowledge of The Shane McConkey Foundation and proceeds from some products go to the foundation. Many just want to bash Andy Wirth and Squaw no matter what.
Squaw and Alpine are doing all they can to make the best of what they have. I think it was an honest and upbeat report. That stats tell the story…

NBC is starting a 24-hour sports channel soon. Many media outlets are starting to resemble PR shops for the controlling corporation to showcase and promote their holdings.
